View Full Version : Nissens Rad - Still running hot?
I know it's a very hot day but around town and in traffic it's still running at 3/4 with the fan on. It doesn't go above 3/4 and on motorways etc it stays dead on half way. I just expected with a new Nissens rad it wouldn't go past half way at all. Is it normal for it to be at 3/4 in traffic in this weather?
Thanks.

check you've bled the system completely, i rarely get over half way now after i fitted mine.
except when driving hard, but it soons drops back down.
i think in traffic tho it will get up into the 3/4 area but then fan kicks in.

Bled the system using the guide on here and coolant was coming out of all 3 of the bleeding points so to me that says that it's all good and there are no air pockets. It's just in traffic really, seems to get up to 3/4 and then the fan kicks in. It doesn't go any higher though.
Dodgy gauge?
Surely this wouldn't affect how hot the engine gets or when the fan kicks in though?

Replaced thermostat not so long ago... :S
Cheers all.

whose guide did you follow?
as water from all 3 bleed points still does not mean theres no air left in the heater matrix...
did you use a propper header tank on the expansion tank or a cut bottle?
did the fan kick in and out 3 times whilst bleeding

Followed this guide: http://www.saxperience.com/forum/showthread.php?t=80569&highlight=fitting+radiator
Used a cut bottle when filling as stated in the guide.
 Didn't do it for 3 times..
You think it's worth bleeding the system again?

and yes 3 times as i find even after the 2nd time it cuts in and out, you normally get more air out..

also if your using a bottle please ensure you use alot of insulation tape to ensure a water tight seal as other wise it will suck air in as your bleeding

My vts is doing exactly the same thing yours is. Bled mine aswell and still no avail! Gonna get a garage to have a look...
A Nissen rad will do no extra in traffic as there is no extra airflow due to no movement. Doesnt matter how big the rad is if your not moving it has no air flow.
