He has been on a VW forum, but no luck as yet. Everyone on here has been really helpfull with my saxo related problems. this is what he has written on the other forum, please someone help my old man! :panic:

Car is 2 litre 8 valve VW Golf gti colour concept mk3 N reg.
Engine cuts out when hot (Temp needle is on centre line)
This started to happen when the car went was on the ramp having an mot.
Any ideas ? I am stumped now.
Prior to this happening There was a problem with the car cutting out intermitently. I had changed the coil, distributor, rotor arm , all the spark plug leads ,spark plugs.
Also the relays have been changed
Seemed to go OK for a while then it would start cutting out again.
Thought I had found the problem when I noticed the crankshaft lead was damaged, I had this changed and everything has been running great again for the last few months until now.
Any ideas please ? :wall:

Right, changed engine coolant sensor and fan motor switch. Made no difference. But I noticed tonight that the engine seems to cut out within about 20 seconds of oil temperature reaching 94 degrees on clock. If I let cool down for couple of minutes, then restart engine with temperature at 90/92 degrees , it will keep running no problem. But rev it up to force temp up to 94 and she cuts out. I think it must be one of those sensors on top of the oil filter housing. Will have to chase up mechanic tomorrow to get them bits.
Does anyone know of any other sensors which might be oil temperature related ?

PLEASE HELP!!

he wasted money having a diagnostic done and came back showing nothing, even though the mechanics in the garage could see there was a problem. the diagnostic still didnt show anything.

As i said could be something simple like the wrong plugs were put in when the plugs were changed, If its fine when cold then gets up to temp it will cut out if the plugs cant withstand the heat.

Did they put it on a VW diagnostic machine. Some cars only work on manufacturer specific machines. My mums Zafira was like that, garage put it on on 3 separate occasions during about a 6 month period, each one came back clean, spoke to a vauxhall garage & they offered a free diagnostic check on their machine & 3 errors came back!

Im not sure whether it was a Vw diagnostic machine, i will have to check, i know i wasnt a vw garage, this would be interesting trying to get the car to our nearest vw garage lol! 20 miles away.

im a bit apprehensive about diagnostic machines as i had one on my saxo, paid over £100 with citroen garage and it showed nothing. fixed the problem with comments on here in the end, :y:

Hey Nads,

Has your Dad looked at: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=2080.230 - 37 posts of similar sounding problems? Plus so many remedies, throttle body cleaning (ICV I'd guess), fuel injection relay plus others. May be worth him trawling through each post.
