What wires does the rev limiter need? Just 2 signal wires at the coilpack?
Sparco_Tom
2nd June 2010, 07:02
make sure you get the twin coil setup.
Pos + red
Neg - black
switch yellow
signal + blue (coilpack)
signal - blue (coilpack)
dont waste your money on one. They are crap and pointless and do alot of damage especially on highspec engines

2nd June 2010, 08:13
yeah got the twin coil one mate
why do they do a lot of damage?
williamsvts
2nd June 2010, 19:27
i fitted 1 to a vtr, just follow the wiring diagram and the saxo wiring diagram.

2nd June 2010, 19:29
I'd also like to know what damage they do to the engine? I know they don't sound good when they are working
Pug106-GTI
2nd June 2010, 20:00
Anyone know what damage it does? Surely can't be that bad as its on the omex ecu and loads of people use it and use launch control even some new sporty cars have it built in
AndySAXO
2nd June 2010, 20:12
well it will put alot of strss on the driveshafts if used all the time, also hi throttle starts do put the engine under alot of stress it will not damage it too much if not used all the time, but really i hate this sort of product as i hate 1/4 runs!! straight line heros!!!!! :p

2nd June 2010, 20:15
I'm sure the clutch won't like being dumped at 4k and full throttle :p
I'm pretty sure all it does is something along the lines of cutting everybother spark and retarding ignition
adamskiTNR
2nd June 2010, 20:32
Oh i thought everyone was talking about the rev limiter damaging the engine. Yeah i can see why the launch control isn't very friendly
Sparco_Tom
2nd June 2010, 20:36
the launch control causes bore wash. Serious clutch wear. Tbh i could launch my car better without the system.

2nd June 2010, 21:51
unless your building a 1/4 mile car i wouldnt bother mate unless your loaded and can afford new parts quite requently
Sparco_Tom
2nd June 2010, 21:54
lol if you were building a serious 1/4 mile car you wouldnt use it.
its just something to talk about in the pub
SnakeVTR
2nd June 2010, 23:26
launch control = total destruction lol, harsh as fuck when pulling off
Sparco_Tom
3rd June 2010, 08:18
its no more harsh than my right and left foot working together. My brain and senses outsmart launch control on a saxo.
williamsvts
3rd June 2010, 18:02
doesnt cause bore wash if you use the fuel cut instead of ignition cut, im sure it has the option on it to pick which 1.
Pug106-GTI
3rd June 2010, 18:18
does have soft cut and hard cut mode
Sparco_Tom
3rd June 2010, 18:57
thats only for the rev limiter. launch control uses ignition cut only! with no option

the instructions say the red goes to coil positive, black goes to earth and the two blue wires go to the two coil negatives
so where abouts in the engine bay do i connect this up? lol like is it the plug that goes onto the coil pack, just scotch clip the wires into the wires coming off the coil plug?
furio-james
4th June 2010, 12:30
on you coil pack you have a plug with 4 wires coming off the 2 blue wires from the omex go to 2 of the wires that go in the plug (the 2 wires are the negitives which are light blue iirc but i think there are 3 light blue wires so you may need a haynes manual) the red wire from the unit goes to a switched live and the black to a ground and the balck after the botton also needs to go to ground
Pug106-GTI
4th June 2010, 12:41
ok mate cheers, instructions say red to coil positive lol
Pug106-GTI
4th June 2010, 13:23
wires to my coil pack are..
green white blue
and black im told not to touch the black?
i been told i connect the two bue wires from omex to the white and blue? so then do i just put the black from omex to a ground and then red to a switched live somewhere?

hey pug106-gti, am after a omex rev limiter for the vtr but aint a clue were to get one!!!! ne sites u got usefull pal?? and also what does it do to ur engine or clutch with just a rev limiter??
Pug106-GTI
4th June 2010, 14:01
ebay cheapest place mate
you can have it set to soft cut or hard cut so it either cuts the fuel or cuts the spark if your usin just the rev limiter i cant see it doing anything to your cluch tbh lol
furio-james
4th June 2010, 14:02
lee VTR im selling my old one for £55 posted and your wires must be different colours mate I know its the 2 negitives from the coils check out your haynes manual should show you in the back by the wiring diagrams mate and yes omex black to ground and red to switched live

Hard or soft cut isn't that mate soft cut it starts limiting earlier iirc the unit only cuts the spark it cant cut the fuel

ah right ok mate my bad lol
where did you connect your switched live to?
furio-james
4th June 2010, 14:07
lol no worries I connected mine to the switched live the cd player is fed off (I dont know if this is the best method but it worked fine for me)

4th June 2010, 14:09
my mate had one on his civic type-R and all it did was rev set to 30,000 and then balls of flames pumpin out of his 6'' bore exhaust lmao look cool as fuck but am wantin same!!! which one is it that does it???? standard omex rev limiter or the launch control limiter??? excuse me for been thick but am new to this rev limiter stuff lol
Pug106-GTI
4th June 2010, 14:11
you could do that with both mate
cheers for the info james, looks like il have to get some wire as i ony got a short wire and the control box is under the bonnet lol
lee_VTR09
4th June 2010, 14:13
expensive as shit on ebay proper pricey as fuck!!! lmao
furio-james
4th June 2010, 14:15
i put the box in with the little pocket under the dash where the fuses are and ran the wires through to the engine compartment then you can easily adjust it in the car :y: and its with launch control

fitted this in led's all light up set it to 4 cylinders and rest rev limiter back to 6k but doesnt seem to cut in? anyne know what it may be? blue wires not making good contact with coil pack wires or something mayb?
PETE-VTR
4th June 2010, 15:50
if the rev limiter isnt cutting in then you've wired it up wrong mate.
theres written instructions (http://www.omextechnology.co.uk/Revlimiters/Downloads/RLCLC.PDF) on the omex website
Pug106-GTI
4th June 2010, 15:56
red to switched ignition
black to earth
two blue wires coming from omex scotch clipped to blue and white on coil wires

you need to set it to 2 cylinders!!!!!!!!
clearly states on the omex site that for twin coil engines you MUST set it to 2 cylinders as 2 fire at each given time etc
working it on 4 is not good mate.
im the guy who "williamsvts" is on about, he fitted it to my VTR :y:
EDIT - here is a picture of mine wired in, not sure if the pic will be much use to you but it was on a W Plate Single Plug (90bhp) VTR

Yea thats what i ment mate sorry lol set to two cylinders twin coil, thats what its on but it isn't cutting it, it still goes past the 6k
Spanky
4th June 2010, 16:56
have u reset the unit to put it back to the factory settings??
im presuming that is scond hand here, which may meen the othr owner had it set above what your standard rev limit is.
tells you in the instructions how to reset it and then change it etc
Pug106-GTI
4th June 2010, 18:28
Yea I reset it in the instructions says when reset it sets it to 6k but when I tried it just went past it
Its a single plug 106 gti do you think it may be the wires going to the coil not making connectiion? Or connected to the wrong wires
PETE-VTR
4th June 2010, 18:31
pos and neg connected the right way round? try swapping them over.
but you should really use a multi meter!
Pug106-GTI
4th June 2010, 18:31
I connected the two blue wires one to the blue and one to the white
Pug106-GTI
4th June 2010, 19:33
I managed to get it working but when you hit the 6k limiter the car seems to bog right down
furio-james
4th June 2010, 21:34
If your hitting the limiter in neutral flat foot your still pumping in all the fuel off full throttle and it isn't being ignited as the omex cuts the spark hence bogging
if you take it to the limiter under normal driving it should be fine
Pug106-GTI
4th June 2010, 21:53
I'm talking about when driving tho mate floor it in second goes to 6k then bogs down and revs drop down and you have to wait a minute for it to like cut in again otherwise you put your foot down and it bogs down
Pug106-GTI
4th June 2010, 21:55
It's like it cuts the spark to long or something?
furio-james
4th June 2010, 21:57
Were did you earth it to? And have you set it up properly?
Pug106-GTI
4th June 2010, 22:02
i put a ring terminal on the earth wire and earthed it on the top bolt on ecu tray the ones that holds it to the strut area
yeah set it to hard cut set it to 2 cylinders so twin coil and rev liit to 6k and launch is set as 5k its all standard at the moment i reset the limiters
furio-james
4th June 2010, 22:09
Try earthing it in a place that already has earth wires bolted to it mate
Pug106-GTI
4th June 2010, 22:17
will do mate, do you think it may not be getting a good enough live? as i am now linking two things from the radio switched live (vac gauge and the omex)
furio-james
4th June 2010, 23:06
Um I think if u draw too much you'll just blow a fuse I think you just need a better ground try changing it to a actual ground used before and let me know how it works after
Pug106-GTI
4th June 2010, 23:10
what do you think of using battery earth mate or you think that may cause to much problem?
only other 1 i can think of is the one just inside the drivers door by the kick panel
