28th June 2010, 12:20
100-155bhp, wait for the standard answer of don't waste your time or effort trying to make a 1.1 any faster. No amount of induction kit or tailpipe is going to get you there. Trick VTS engine may get you to around that figure

for the amount of money you would spend on the engine trying to get it to go quicker you might as well just buy a vts and pay the higher insurance. It will work out cheaper in the short and long term!!!

Vts engine conversion with cams, re-map, induction, 4 branch and straight through will see 155+bhp if you have around 2grand to spend.
But as said why not just buy a vts and spend your money tuning that?

1.1 are the kings of all the saxo's as a first car but wait a year and then get a 1.4 or 1.6 if you can afford one. If you cant wait another year. Ive come to my senses and im now saving money instead of wasting it on things so I can get 2-6 more bhp Im spending about £400 out of a grand on things that are interchangable between saxo's and thee rest saving for a west coast or if I can afford a mk1 vtr but doubtful

listen to what your saying!!!! and listen to what other people are saying, if you cant afford a 1.4 you will never be able to afford a 100 bhp 1.1!!! lol
you dont have a clue how much money it would cost to get a 1.1 to that power! just to get a vts engine to 150 bhp would cost a grand plus easily
jeffchiz
28th June 2010, 20:04
on a serious note all you can really do to a 1.1 is an induction kit, exhaust, manifold which would add about 5bhp at the most and would cost £300+ and for £300 you could have a vts engine in your car
you might be able to fit a better cylidner head/inlet manifold on which might add a few bhp
apart from that all you can do is turb0/supercharge, which will cost thousands, and if you cant afford a westcoast you wont be able to afford to do any of these modifications
modifying cars isn't cheap the sooner you realise that the better, especially trying to modify a 1.1

Oh really, then how are you going to be able to afford one once you have told your insurance company about your engine conversion?
First of all, LOL.
Secondly, why do you "need" to make your 1.1 "much faster"???

why is this still going? Lol
i know not many can afford a fast first car, but i saved up and got a vtr (a cheap one mind!) and the amount i spent would have got a 1.1 nowhere. Would have looked nicer but been no faster. And again, if you did drop a 16v in, your insurance would hit the roof, and you'd be best forking out on better brakes and suspension too as otherwise its gonna go nowhere but on its roof

Just drive it as it is. Save your money and when the time comes that you can afford a better / faster car then do it. No point spending money on dropping a vts/vtr engine in and all the other bits to do it right. Say your crash all that money wasted or 3 years down the line your still stuck with a car that maybe you've throwen a grand or two at only for it to be worth buttons.

Supercharge it.
I always thought about having a cheap runabout with a small engine, but running throttlebodies so it made the right noises. I think 100bhp is expensive but possible. 150bhp no chance. Only way to make it faster on a budget would be to remove the complete interior, remove the windows and fit polycarbonate replacements with a fibreglass bonnet and boot to finish it off...

get the head skimmed, get the engine ported and polished then crank and flywheel lightened and balanced that would make it a little quicker but not 150bhp. you would have a faster rev range is well be like a motor bike thats if you lighten and balance. try that you would notice the difference but wont be amazingly fast

You need to make the inside of your engine bigger, the best way is by sanding it down from the inside. Which is alot easier than it sounds. I've known people to sand away so much that its made the engine a 2.0 instead of a 1.0.
Remove airtake induction piping and air filter. Turn the engine on. Pour a bag of sand into the intake and run the engine at 5k revs for roughly 2 and half minutes. Engine will cough and splutter, maybe even smoke. Don't worry it will just be the loose particles of sand in the engine sanding the insides making the engine larger. Turn the engine off (if it hasn't already cut out) and remove the oil cap. Pour 3 litres of water into the engine to wash out all the sand. Once the water is in tighten the oil cap back up and run the engine on fast idle. Don't worry about the smoke its just water evaporating.
Take the car for a quick spin and show up a few subaru's and VTS's. Maybe purchase a 'VTS eater' sticker before hand for your back window.

If you do any of the above you are stupid and should not be aloud any where near a car, the above is a joke and will kill your car.

Cements for the radiator iirc? blocks it up, stopping the radiator cooling the engine down, thus keeping the engine running nice and warm.
