Right I've basically got the engine out of the car because I need to get the gearbox rebuilt as well as sorting out what I thought was just going to be the valve stem seals.

So..... I took of the head to find...

Looks normal apart from the bit of burned on oil etc, then I got to this:

To me this looks absolutely fu**ed. I remember when I changed the plugs one of the old super 4's that were in it was missing an electrode, which must have caused this damage.

And this is the head side:

So, what can I do about the head?

Can I save the pistons?

Or

Does anyone on here have a set of 4 standard pistons with conrods they would like to sell me? (PM if you do).

Cheers guys!

first I would agree with you but just to make sure, clean the pistons and the head up as much as you can. See if there any cracks etc but with the head being like thatmmm

I'd get a new head and piston/pistons

I've cleaned the head up and as far as I can see there are no cracks, just the gouges but its still a bit shitty.

Ideally i'd like to buy a new head and a set of standard pistons from someone off here.

I'll try and get some engine numbers.

Also what cars do the jp4 heads come out of? And will it work with a standard bottom end with out to much fuss?

robut by the time you have done everything probably cost you about£250-£300? Zaine on here is selling full JP4 engines for £200 all you need to do is swap sump over, change cambelt setup for J4 one drill head for inlet and bosh off you go about the same money all being said n told but lot easier option there

hmm....

I'll need to speak with my bank manager (mrs) about that.

I've done a search and i cant find anything about fitting a jp4. I guess theres rewiring to go with that as i have a single plug ecu and loom (half gti/half furio)
