Hi Guys,

I am hoping that this can be answered quickly as I am right now up to my nuts in VTS bits, spanners and Haynes books!;) My drive belt broke yesterday just pulling into my drive, when I have jacked the car up today the large pully at the bottom is running free. I dont know if it is meant to be loose and the belt holds it to the centre section which is attached to what seems to be the engine block or if the pully has broken loose? There is 3 small nuts and 1 huge centre nut. They are all fixed in place its just the groved pully wheel that is loose.

Any quick answers would be a massive help.

Cheers:y

the crank pulley should be one piece, an it should not free wheel, does it appear to be broken in any way? :y:

Thanks for the reply. I have done some research and the drive belt pully is in 2 parts with a rubber or plastic washer inbetween. The washer has gone allowing the pully to seperate and free wheel causing the belt to break.

Thanks

the rubber gone in between the pulleys?
mine did this a while back and i had to replace it.
the whole thing was separate from the crank pulley and just moved around at its own accord.
easy enough job to do, but the pulley isnt cheap

dont mess with the centre bolt, im sure you loosent he 3 small bolts and work the pulleys loose, i just got a big wedge in there and worked it off, it was tight, seemed as if it wasnt moving, but a few gentle taps and its started to come off.
i think the large bolt in the middle is for you crank belt, no need to loosen that.

as above, remove the 13mm bolts and change the pulley, its quite a common failing

Thanks for all the advice and support guys! £50 for a new part! took the old one off and cleaned up all the spacing screws and bolts to make it easier to fit the new one later. I am looking at scrap yards now I know to look for VTS only as the VTR and any other Saxo pulleys are different.

Yep, not touched the cenre bolt just unscrewed the 3 bolts, with it been in 2 parts it was tricky to remove at first but like you said boz a few taps and off she came.

Cheers

Ok Guys, update..

I could not find a second hand drive belt pulley so had to bite the bullet and get one from Citroen £150 inc VAT! Ouch..

So having strugled fitting the the pulley for 3 hours. I dont know if that is normal but it was a real bitch to get past the chassis until I worked out to give it a whack with wood and a hammer.

Any way that was on and I was looking forward to getting the job done until tonight I was trying to fit the belt. It just does not fit, I have spoken to people and they are telling me that it is the right belt.

I have a VTS with NO Air Con. the belt that was on was a 5780, the belt I have is a 5778 and it will just not fit there is not enough slack to get it over all of the pulleys like it says in the Haynes manuel.

Is this the wrong belt? am I a total spaf and missing some thing? I really need some advice and help guys I have spent a full day almost trying to get this working and people say it takes 45mins!

Cheers

Guys, still having issues with the drive belt! how much play should there be when the belt is fitted? The 775 has about 3 cm of play when pushed down? is this ok?

Cheers
