Hey saxp, can someone please tell me if a 306 gti/rallye engine will fit into the saxo? I know they go into 205's so they should fit right? It's also supercharged so with the charger and intercooler it would take up a bit more room. I will be making some measurements etc, but just wondered if I could get a quick answer off here. I'm also thinking it could mess up the weight ratio? Could be a bit nose heavy. Can anyone shed any light? Thanks :y::y:

it has been done a couple of times.
dont think you should have any problem with spacer for rotrex or intercooler providing its not the size of the front... rotrex are nicely packaged. is it a lynx kit?

I would say it can be done as one has been put in a 106 and they are basically the same car.

It's a lynx kit yeah. It's currently in the rallye, but I'm now taking this car down the N/A route.
Thanks ryan8v, at least i know they definately go in! Nice one pal. 268bhp in a saxo should be fun :D

well when he says they fit, he doesnt mean it'll be easy... lol if you have enough money you could fit a v8 in there, also the 106 bay is smaller than a saxo one by a couple inches so should have even more room compared to that black 106 shown earlier

v8 saxo... now theres an idea! We have our own workshop, so time/space isn't an issue. Money is'nt endless but we have all tools and equipment needed to carry out most engine conversions, so it should be fairly straight forward. Obviously I won't be using the 6 speed box and I'td probably be best to fabricate or purchase some custom driveshafts. I don't think any standard pug/cit shafts will handle the torque. So has anyone else got a 2.0l s/c saxo/106? I hope I'm not the first becuase no doubt there will be teething issues!
the gti-6 engine sits at an angle and is heavie than the TU engines.
If you can get it to fit, it will be good in a straight line, I doubt it will handed better than a saxo with a TU in it though.
V8 saxo, hhhmmmmmm, i have a spare shell and a superchargered 5.7 V8 in my dads garage ;D
just a shame he wont let me loose on the V8 lol dam custom car boys

Now theres a project idea if i ever heard one!
I have some ast sportline 2's with adjustable top mounts for the saxo. They were on my rallye, but I'm now trying a new setup. Will be seeing how that goes at elvington in the next few weeks. I've also got some wilwood 4 pots to go on the saxo. Although after looking at that 106 gti6 again, I've realised it's for sale. So I've messaged him and awaiting a reply. Would save a bit of messing about if i took it off his hands.
What I don't want is to fit the s/c lump then drive it to realise its too nose heavy. I can play around with the suspension settings, but if its too heavy, it won't eliminate the problem. Might ask nicely if I can test drive the 106 gti6. Will definately know once I've driven one.

To be honest this is just a myth. There is no reason you could not get it handling very well. The car would probably be inherently better balanced then many of the Turbo Saxos out there that have a huge cast iron turbo hanging out the front of them. There was a AX racing quite successfully a while ago with a XU engine in it and there fundamentally the same car as a Saxo. Though i do like your 2nd plan better. A nice big V8 could be gerat fun :D

I'll be honest. I have previously considered the idea! I drove a capri v8 about a week ago and whilst looking at the engine, i thought to myself... i bet that would go in a saxo! Engines out of a tvr... but then landrover also used this so that kinda steals some thunder. I'd do it purely for the noise :D

Thats my 106 with the gti6 engine in it, i take it you emailed me via ebay?
and i find mine handles just as good as a vts thats on apex 45mm set up.. he even agrees..
with AST's it will handle so much better than it does now! with a decent set up.. im sure weight on the front wouldnt matter 1 bit!

Hi buddy yeah i did. Did you get the details on my saxo? I'm really interested in this one. Only problem is that you're a fair distance from me. Would I be able to come test drive it? Would that be cool? I'd also need to make some measurements regarding where the intercooler, boost piping, oil cooler and s/c cooler would be placed. Would a sunday be any good to you?

PM me your number bud and we'll sort something out :)
my dad had the s/c v8 in a capri with a mad paint job, jacked up rear end and an old jag back axle.
the v8 has a racing yank tank charger on it, with 4 sets of twin carbs ontop the a big air filter that sticks out of the bonnet like mad max :D
4 pipes either side of the car in front of the rear wheels.
he is putting it in a bedford van, making the chasis lift up so you can see the chromed engine.
but i recon it will be better midmounted in a saxo :D
will need some wheelie bars at the back and a monster fuel tank under the bonnet to keep the front end down and supply the beast that does 8mpg when taking you time lol
if you run it on methanol or ethanol, you get silly drag racing bhp
im sur ethere are some pivs in my progress thread early on??

if your running a lynx s/c kit on the 306 then the inlet manifold will be too long and the bonnet will not shut on a saxo, as this issue had been covered on fitting s/c gti-6 engines in 205's. pm rich_w on 306gti-6.com as he does do shorter inlet manifolds for 205 conversions.

alright guys, i'm new here, first post! Just got my old west coast back on the road and im interested in an engine swap, not looking to go mad just something to make a standard vts look silly. Anything else that fits?
suspension and brakes have already been upgraded but might be outdated by now, I don't know how fast technology moves with cars I've been out of the game a couple of years now!!
Any help would be great,
Cheers

Thanks for the heads up buddy. Already spoke to Rich.
I think I'm gonna have to start from scratch with the vtr though. I can't pick up this 106 gti6 befoe the 23rd i don't think :(

1600 vtec lump with a few tweeks? I think someone on heres going for it. But I beleive theres a bit of work involved to get it to fit. Or a supercharged R1 engine :D:D Pal of mine has one of these in his mini, sounds unreal at 14k revs! But that would involve some serious work.

The 306 lynx kit does not fit straight into the 205 but requires a bit of modification (off the top of my head), I cannot see why it would handle worse than a 205 with the same engine. With the AST's you can set the springrate correct for the weight balance, and also revalve them for the intended use.
I'd do it. You would be laughing every time you drive it.

I'm well impressed with the AST's. Went out in a s2000 that had a set. The handling was sublime, so poised. So I was straight onto Curtis @ ast who also talked me into getting the top mounts as well. On track, I can't think of anything that'd top them for the money. But on the road they're a little harsh, even after a bit of fettling. All round though, massive thumbs up from me.
I've been onto the 205gti drivers site and you're right, it's not going to be as straight forward as I anticipated. Still, it's very do-able, which is all I need to know. I have the bonus or a second car and a workshop too which helps.
Does anyone think I should go high boost in the saxo?!?! ~400bhp in a 920kg french tin can? I don't think my pants could handle it!
