clutch has gone and engine wont start!

right my release bearing has been noisy for a while and the clutch has started slipping badly the last couple days, as i was leaving work the other day i lost all feel in the clutch pedal (probably the release bearing disintegrating lol) but the engine cut out and wont start? why would the engine not work if the clutch/release bearing is knackered? im thinking when the bearing went it some how ripped the gearbox earth off, but my car is at work and im not... lol so i cant go out and have a look atm :(

So does it even crank over?? id it doesn't crank over i would of thought it would be terminal but how could the release bearing knock the earth off unless its punched through the belhousing.

yea its cranks over and tries to start but just doesnt, and the only reason i think the earth might have came out is because as there is no release bearing anymore there is no springyness to the clutch pedal so the gearbox arm thingy (the bit the clutch cable is connected to) is all floppy so has more movement in it so i dunno if its caught a wire and pulled it out

sounds like a piece of release bearing has flew out or a clutch finger or some piece of clutch....and smashed or damaged the flywheel sensor, this would cause it to die imediatley as it has, this is most certainley your issue mate

dont need a new car, whack the box off and get a new clutch kit, source the new crank sensor or get one off here or scrappy best bet as they aint cheap new!!

thanks for the help mate that does sound right, im still getting a new car there are plenty of things that need doing to it which would be easier if the cars off the road also im getting a 2001 106 dirt cheap so even if i buy it and sell it straight on ill be in the money :P lol also being a 1.1 going to and from uni will be sooooo cheap lol

no worries bud, sounds like a winner all round then, this would be the most likely cause of your problem and to be totally honest i couldnt think of anything at all else it could possibley be, but i know just a small knock on the flywheel sensor can fuck it instantly, done 3 on my megane........fook knows why but was a comman problem for me lol

lol sounds like we both having on going bad luck lol if the garage say its the crank sensor ill go down to the scrappy iirc they are only held in by one bolt? and just simply plug/unplug from the loom?

Yeah there is a chance it could have taken your crank position sensor out causing it not to start!
1 bolt, simple unplug and plug in sensor, just be carful as there are 2 different types as fras as I'm aware! Different numbers of wires!

Yeah there is a chance it could have taken your crank position sensor out causing it not to start!
1 bolt, simple unplug and plug in sensor, just be carful as there are 2 different types as fras as I'm aware! Different numbers of wires!

lol its not looking good is it mate at this rate im never gonna get my front bumper sorted :( this time next month im deffo putting it in to the bodyshop as long as theres nothing terminal wrong with my car lol hopefully it'll just be a clutch change and sensor change and should be all up and running again :D

yep ive seen this exact problem before, once a piece of the clutch cover or release bearing breaks away the first thing it does is a 360 of the bell housing and mashes up the cranksensor :panic:

unlucky dude. I do confirm the clutch dies very quickly after the first signs of weakness.. Been there done that, you will be fine :)
