Does anyone know what temperature the markings on the VTS oil temperature gauge actually represent? I'm guessing min 50, mid 90, max 130?
I originally posted this in the interior / styling forum, but got no response so thought I'd try here instead :A:

i dont know but the perfect running temprature for getting the most out of ur engine is 72 degrees, and id guess the max would be less than 100 degrees, just a guess mate

Is the optimum temperature really only 72 degrees? That's lower than I'd have thought, I'm no expert at all, but I know that 306 gti's and Audi TT's both settle when the oil is 90 degrees so would have thought the VTS would be the same?

I'm not expert but the operating temp of the oil under normal use isn't 72 degrees !

72 is too cold, it should be about 90 degrees c as stated.

I think mine runs a bit hot then, even when it's just driven gently it sits just above the middle. When I drive it moderately hard, it creeps up to around 3/4.
I've only just got the car and although the oil is fresh I'm not sure what grade it is, so I'm going to try changing it and see if that makes a difference.

The oil and water temp gauges are notoriously varied in accuracy.
Take the readings with a pinch of salt. If it runs ok and has enough oil and coolant and the engine doesn't use any oil or coolant I really wouldn't worry.

Mine usually sits on the middle line. Went to 3/4 once but that was coming off of a track session
