My mate gave me this induction kit today, and was wandering if anyone knew how much my insurance would go up by? I'm 20 got a 1.4 sx and 1 yr ncb. Also what can I expect from it? It's only a cheap one.

i'm 20 and have a vtr, no ncb.
Admiral would charge me an extra £50 to do any modification to the air filter.
£90 to upgrade exhaust system (in case that's something you're looking at).
A lot of people will tell you to keep the standard air box and get an upgraded panel filter and cold air feed, this will not affect your insurance. It will also not suffer from heat soak which open styled filters do. This is what I have done and is very popular, there is lot's of information on this if you use the search function, some good guides etc.
If you just want it for the noise, go with what you have, like I say, Admiral would charge me around £50.

Yeah, very generally speaking an open cone filter will just give you noise, if that's what you're after then great!
It will probably be less for you as you have no claims and a 1.4sx... In theory it should be...

That's rubbish! Who are you with?
Some insurers don't though... Looks like you might have to wait or if you're near the end of your policy go with someone else.

Some insurers wont touch you with any mods at all till you are 25.
Bit crazy. Id say just pop a panel filter in and leave the standard airbox in.

You shouldnt really be advising people to break the law
If he follows your advice and the company find out hes got an induction kit, they may not pay out in event of a claim

in all fairness he should tell them, but is it worth paying the money when we already have to pay stupid amounts. if you crash or whatever, it a easy 2min job to swap it back.

good. You don't need to pay extra money for extra noise anyway

I'm with Endsleigh but can't remember who the underwriters are lol. And the kit wouldn't fit anyway haha. How much are panel filters?

DO NOT stick an induction kit on and not tell the the insurance company, i did that many years ago and had an accident, they made me pay £450.00 in back payments for my wheels, exhaust and induction kit just so i could get my car sorted by the people that dragged it away on the lowloader (was hit by a bus), it just isn't worth it mate, just stick a K&N panel filter in and upgrade the airflow

You dont have to tell them about a pannel filter as it's just a direct replacement for the original just a diffrent make, an induction kit is classed as a race modification that's why it has to be declared.
Link above for one on e-bay mate :y:
