As above really dont really fancy forking out £60 for 2 days rent so if anyone has done it without one whats it like?

Its a pain in the arse, requires alot of wood and stuff to lift the front end of the car over the engine.

as above ive took my engine out without using a crane and its a pain in the ass, i will be getting a crane to put it back in

If you have a decent beam in the garage can winch off that.
Hire companies need beating down on price... Not like there earning money with it in there lockup ;)

£60 for a weekend??? Bloody hell glad mine came to £23 now for the weekend.
I dropped my engine using a jack, used a crane to get it into the other shell though.

you could buy 1 2nd hand for that. i wouldnt even bother attempting it without a crane.

+1 its to much of a pain to try and achieve without a crane. i have done it once and i never plan to do it again.
go on my mini progress link in my sig as there is a pic of our crane on there that i used today for my mini. its probably only worth around 80 quid but it has saved so much hassle in its lifetime

ive done a few without a crane, its a piss on but not as bad as ppl make out, especially if you got a coupl of big jacks,

want to sell it to me for £20 lol :D
thanks guys il saver a few extra quid and borrow a crane i think just to be on the safe side :D

we drop the engine and box onto a wooden trolley, then lift the car up. can be done with a jack (although easier with a ramp)

ebay search and this is doen the road from you, might cost you the £60up front but you can put it back on ebay and get your money back.

the first time i used a crane, 2nd time i used a telehandler!
can be done without a crane tho

as above, id buy one, but i wouldnt rent one when you can do it without. got a huge one we built a long while back but its on a mates lock up as its too big for my garage lol, a mate has just got a near new one for £40

use a scaff bar and rope with 2 people ether end thats how i did it on my metro and that was with the gear box still on there
