I am about to take delivery of my new engine and think that i may need a custom/bigger, manifold/system to get the full potential from it.

Its a vts block with 1.8 stroker kit & QEP big valve head + 808 cams.

I have a similar spec 1.6 version in the car at the mo that makes 170 bhp and it seems to cope ok with a janspeed mani.

I dont want to reinvent the wheel so does anybody have any plans for an oversize mani??? or do the people that know their onions think that i may not need to upgrade??

also will the injectors (330 pico's) that i use in the 1600 cope ok in the 1800??

cheers for the help:D

if you are over 200bhp then you will probably need a 2 1/4 system

Oooo id be very interested to hear what sort of power and torque that makes? Thinking of doing the same to mine!

I hope to get just over the 200bhp mark. the 1600 i have in at the mo is limited to 7800 rpm because its still on hydraulic lifters but the new big valve head is on solids so even with it being a stroker i was expecting it to rev to 8.5k ish.

The 1600 also has the GMC/jenvey TB setup with the 180 bend inlet trumpets that I reckon will also slow it down so am swapping to ATP direct to heads with shorted inlets.

here are 2 pics of the air/inlet system

Any other bottlenecks you can foresee???

Hi Kam Racing, So there is a bigger bore size 2 1/4 I get get easily enough or do you mean get a custom one built using the bigger tube/pipe??

would i be just getting the builder of the system copying the pipe lengths of an existing mani but just up a pipe size??

cheers:)

Interesting, im currently running the same system as well..

If your going to that engine spec i would consider getting the big bore pugsport style manifold, and then like kam says get a custom 2 1/4 or 2.5 inch system made up.

With the stroker kit it should lower the rpm at which peak power is made due to the higher CCs, therefore you will prob find it still makes peak power around or just under 8k id imagine. Although the extra rpm will definately help around the ring with the extra power.

Just out of interest what gearbox are you running? Ive found im nearly topping out with the 1.4xsi box (130mph) and thats with 50profile r888 tyres to up the gearing slightly as well.

maniflow do a big bore system, a copy of the peugeot sport manifolds.
Also GMC might have one, as they do supercharger conversions I think they will have a manifold with a bigger bore.

gmc btb manifold would props be your best bet mate, as kam said they use the with there charged engines.

nice one:)
Tidy looking setup you have.
I cut another inlet on the drivers side and put them through the cda canisters from/to the missing headlights. I had and bad/unlucky experience with the pan head style filter catching fire lol. I also cut a big hole in top of the box and set a K&N filter, then built a bonnet to feed it there too:). Looks pretty shitty under the hood but works for bhp and sounds like they are "free" lol :)

I have a spare untouched GMC airbox so cutting up this one was no drama.

where can i find details of this Pugsport Bigbore manifold?????

cheer

If your chasing each last bhp then i'd go with the maniflow copy of the pugsport over the BTB.

I have the BTB, its great but at 200bhp i'd go with the maniflow one :D

Yes your airbox set up looks great, lots of nice cold air coming from all directions where as mines only in from 1 side so will be more restrictive. On the rollers at gmc mine made 140bhp @ the wheels, although as we all know rolling road power outputs vary

JPsaxo : I am using a VTS case with Quaife Gearset (non fia) and ATB

it goes great, best bit of the car but is going for a sequential within the next year :)

My driving is not the best but this shows the gearbox dong its thing :)

I am waiting for my collar bone to fix then it going to GMC for a final tune and RR session. Hope next week.

I know it feels alot better than last time and If I can get an impressive RR printout it will aid in the sale of it all when new motor goes in :D

Good stuff :D

Quaife gearset, must be nice and short then. Id imagine way too short for the ring unless you have a long 5th gear?

Ill watch the video later!

I get about 120 125 out of it. It is funny to hit a limiter in 5th lol.
At the ring there was only one part where it was on the verge of topping out but I am by no means good at the ring & probs a bit of a pussy :homme:

It just makes it really easy to drive to be honest.

Yeah once you get to know the ring, with 200bhp you should easily be pushing 140mph so you will want a gearbox to suit!

Stinkbone
18th October 2010, 20:12
bad one about the ball joints!!

Is your car the dark green Sax, black wheels? got a vid on youtube hammering the shite out of an Evo??

looked to be going very well indeed:D

I watched it go past 's' bends in front of the buildings and you had 4 wheel drift just about the whole way!! looked cool:cool:

The dude at the trackside petrol pump was telling me that there were lots more people crammed in by the organisers of our particular day!!

Greedy organiser C@nts and piss poor driving made for long queues I agree :(

before i get hammered, i dont think i am great driver but i kept it on the track and didnt f@ck things up or hold up sessions by being a loon :boxing:

yer seem to be alot of people on that day, and hmmm mine is green with black front lights and roof, cant remember if i was the only green saxo, cant rememver dont get many green saxos i didnt get much time out there :( i even checked it all over, and they where all find the week before!

but i watch your car for a few laps, and leave the pits sort of area onto the track and the noise was very sexual indeed.
