hello all.

Looking for a few tips to push some more power out of my vtr. It currently has a stainless steel straight through decat with a 4-1 manfiold and a crappy universal air filter (which im going to put a standard box with panel filter the weekend) also has an oil breather? what a mess.. anyways im looking to get it cammed because as well all know its 8v so im losing power in 3rd gear or in higher revs.. took it to a track 1 day and managed to beat a zetec s with a puma engine (which im proud of) its lowered on coilovers about 80mm on the front and i believe 2 clicks on the rear torsion bar. tyres are proxy 4's and the car sticks like glue possibly a vts gearbox? stripped in the back aswell no spare wheel or seats to save some weight any other tips would be much welcomed as i want to try and stick with a vts as they have the pull on me in 3rd :( apart from putting cams on it is there anything else andddddd is camming it going to add much more power? cheers.

Get it cammed with a good map and you will see some more power get your induction sorted aswell BMC or raceland with green filter should do. Maybe loose some more weight from the front of the car if possible. If you want you could put a gearbox from a 1.1 for better acceleration.

depends if you want to do some hardcore tuning, throttle bodies, high comp pistons, turbo or if on a bit of a budget get a rallye inlet cam and a good map

I think you should get a s2 1.3 box and a rallye inlet manifold there is one on ebay at the mooo.....and a bmc/raceland with gren filter!

How much am i looking at paying out on pistons. bodies. cams and a turbo? budget wise im probably looking at about £3000 max as the car atm probably isnt worth more than a £1000. 1 problem im having is with it being an s-reg and 92k on the clock should i look to get another engine first?

id probably drop an s lump in it be about 250-400 sheets for the engine and all the bits for it then you've instantly got the power your after then add cams and others bits at a later date

if you was to buy everything new then i think roughly Pistons are £600 (wossner High comps) bodies can be about £1000 cam could be about £400 tubo kit i havent looked into it but go onto GMC website and look on there. depends wether you want to be in team 8v (VTR) or become a valver (VTS) vts would be better but you can always tune up a vtr just rebuild your current engine

you might be able to turbo it if you go second hand, but i dont think you will get far with 3 grand by the time you get it mapped and what not. i maybe wrong tho.

well i went in to gmc the other day, and the guy basicly turned round and said 3 grand for starters, a nearly fainted lmao.

im building a vtr turbo to run 1 bar boost, inlcuding buying the 03 vtr and the conversion it wont stand me 3k ;)

anything can be done with determination

thats a tight budget :P

it will probs owe me about 3.5k all in when done, that doesnt include my td 1.2s though, not bad for a forged vtr turbo with stand alone

If you want to make the vtr faster round a track then change the suspension.... 80mm and 2 ''clicks'' is a terrible stance for track use....

40-50mm at the front and around 30mm at the rear will see a perfect racing nose down stance and it will handle like you couldn't believe...

shouldn't he invest in some decent shocks too? ;)

but yea, uber low on track normally doesn't help!

and tbh, i think he should concentrate more on handling and stopping. if you're on shorter circuits a shorter box will help loads eg: rallye, XSI, 1.1. got a 1.1 on my vtr and it goes! then get some decent pads and discs (or bigger brakes) so you can outbrake them. strip it out, decent seats, lighter alloys. theres loads you can do that will make you quicker but with the same power ;)

most of its cheaper and easier than cams + remap anyway ;)
