I know enclosed filters are normaly the best option for most makes/models of car, or a performance pannel filter in a standard airbox.
But i was doing a search on the internet for an "open cone" induction kit for my car. When my mate walked in and said a "universal" one will be the same.
I can get an iduction kit by K&N for around £70 this inlcudes filter and the aluminium pipe.
The universal filter is about £20 and the pipe is £15

So basicaly will an Universal filter do the same as a vehicle specific induction kit

Im saying no, mate thinks yes

EDIT** isnt for a saxo :y:

i cant see it being as good, but then just changing an airfilter isnt going to do too much anyway.. id spend out the extra for the k&N just for piece of mind and knowing youve bought the best but if price is really an issue, give the other one a try mate. unless the universal one is designed that badly, id say it would do pretty much the same job fella.. could be wrong

Im going to get the K&N anyway, as i know will have some design behind it and decent build quality

The K&N open cone induction Kits (http://www.kamracing.co.uk/index.php/citroen/citroen-saxo/saxo-engine/open-induction-kits.html) are designed to come with the right length piping and hose attachments. Much nicer than trying to make your own out of random parts.

I would imagine the gauze/materials etc will be much higher standard with the k&n over a universal. Crap materials, wont filter out as much crap, wont have such a smooth airflow rate either! And may let in more of the elements such as moisture.

And as kam said, it will fit straight out the box!

Too be honest the difference will be minimal between the two mate so save money and get the cheaper one. The K&N one is all about paying for a name (not denying they're good but too expensive).

Another thing depends on which way around your engine faces (inlet at the front or back) if the inlet is at the back an inclosed induction kit will be of benefit, but if your inlet is at the front it wont reli matter.

The most inmportant thing is your cold air feed, get that right and you'll be fine!
