Hi Guys... Sorry to make another Thread I imagine there's loads about this. But I can't find a straight answer anyone agrees on....
I'm trying to find out because I can never get the same answer and I don't think anyone really knows...
What actually makes the MK2 VTR Engine 8hp more?
I thought the only difference between MK1 and MK2 VTR's was the mapping?
I thought after you fit 4-2-1 Manifold and a Straight through System, so getting rid of that damn Cat. You'd gain enough to match the MK2? When you say the difference is in the head are you talking MK1 Black Top or MK1 Silver Top? Because I have a MK1 Single Plug Silver Top and a MK2 Single Plug and they look the same? Even the Inlets are the same lol. Someone told me the Single plugs are 90hp and 3 Plug are 98hp and the only difference is mapping. I wish I could really find out for sure I always get told difference answers I don't think anyone really knows lol.

to be honest mate with the ages of the engine's you could have a ragged mk2 and a well looked after mk1 with fsh ect and it would pull ahead:y: I do know the port spacing's on the inlet, 1 of them is non-roller camshaft and the other is roller and obviously the ecu. Hope this helps:y:

ecu mapping
better inlet & tb design on th 98bh's
this is basically the top and bottom of it
the newer style cat may have helped a little too, other then this its the same engine,

Yeh you would notice the difference :fcuk:
By getting rid of the cat and Putting 4-2-1 and a Straight through system on. And looking after my Engine I recon it's close to 98hp :)
Just to clear up the last confusion I have... The MK1 black top and MK1 silver top are they the same? 90hp?
On another Forum, someone telling me Silver Tops are 98hp even in 99 MK1 Engines. Man... More Confusion lol.
Both mine are Silver top one is MK1 Car One is MK2 Car but both are Single Plug. One 1999 and one 2000.

I dont beleive for a second you would notice 8bhp between the 2.
Its the same with DC2's.The JDM model has about 8bhp more than a UKDM model, but on the road theyr is nothing in it.

Yeh just so much confusion lol people telling me different things.
I asked some guy that seemed to know his stuff If when I rebuild my Silver top Single plug from the MK2 car if I put Throttle bodies and a Stand alone ECU on with Ultimate Road Cam, Lighter Flywheel 4-2-1 Manifold and Straight through System. Head work. will it make more than the MK2 98hp Engines and he was like no it's a MK1 Engine it'll never make more.
I know he was chatting crap but I had to ask I wanted a straight answer lol.
Either way it don't matter I've got all the parts sitting here so I'll build it no matter what lol.

just discussing manifolds on another thread surely a 4-1 would be better as the vtr lacks topo end power

Look at the sticky at the top.
All pre 2001 Vtr (silver & blacktop) are 90 bhp.
2001+ (silvertop & three plug ecu, cat in manifold) are 98 bhp
