okay, so i asked this question in my thread in the newbies thread but dont think it got much attention....

Anyways, i have a 1.0 mk1 saxo, its on 65k miles and im pretty sure its got what seems be quite a common problem, the idle control valve.... anyways thats not wat the thread is about.

in this pic ive done 196 miles. this was from a fill tank of petrol, and now its around a 1/4. Dunno if its just me but it doesnt sound like much for a 1.0. Just wondering what other people are getting from theres and if i need start checking for problems.

My old car was a 1.1, I used to get about 350-400 miles from one tank.

i got 450 miles out of a tank in my vtr, yours sounds worse than my vts, with no lambda sensor, de-cat and no fuel return ha

cheers lads its mostly around town miles, but i should be getting more than that shouldnt i?

U think the idle control valve could have anything to do with it?

Cheers

for example in my vts which is over fueling im getting about 80 miles to £20 around town so 190-200 for £40 just under full tank or 120 miles to £20/240 miles out of £40 on motorways, so yours sounds about the same as mine and yours should be much better, saying that mine would be better if i sorted the fueling problems out lol not sure if the icv would affect it though sorry

Cheers for that mate. Lol i wouldnt really mind the poor mpg but its only a bloody 1.0. There supposed to run on air!

Okay, so somethings not right then, anyone got any ideas as to what could be causing the poor mileage?

Cheers

i do a lot of town miles in my 1.1, i get roughly:

40 miles to £50
60-70 miles to £10
120-130 miles to £20

unfortunately being a student, financial situation isnt great and i rarely put over £20 in it lol

I don't like to upset myself so never work it out.

It could be a number of number of things tbh, id suggest it could be sensor related
Sensors like the lambda sensor, air temp sensor, engine/coolant temp sensors, can all effect the fuel economy, I've ha it before when the lambdas gone and it still ran ok (could have been slightly better) and my good mpg just went straight out the window. Ive had it on both my 16v rallye and vtr
I'd say get diagnostics on the car though as it will show if any sensors are reading/performing wrong in anyway. It will also save on problem solving replacing sensor after sensor which arnt all needed.

But they are all just ideas of where to look, it could be something as simple as it just needs a fuel filter change, or a good service too

^^cheers mate, think i might know some one with a diagnostics kit. so will try and get it done asap. I guess its more than likely to be a sensor then thats making it run rich?

ok so dont know if this is normal on all cars, but sometimes when im driving, if i have my foot at a steady 1/4 throttle for instance. As the revs build if feels like you get a little suddon burst of power. As if a jet (correct term for where the fuel goes through?) has opened, to allow more fuel go through. Its not major or anything and you cant normally feek much. Just wondering if anyone else has encountered similer problems??

Cheers

That would most likely be lambda sensor mate

I've had that exact same situation as that and every time it turned out to be lambda. I currently have it now and again as I fried my lambda due to another issue about a month back, the diagnostics show different characteristics in the graph to what it should

The car feels like it's holding back right? Under light load like you said then all of a sudden a split second misfire and burst of power, jolts you forward a little? Thats best way I can describe mine lol

remember the 1.0 is quite underpowered for its weight and stuff compared to a 1.1, so dont expect to get quite the same as a 1.1 or a Furi, VTR etc

Yeah i meant £5 lol, but thats changed now fuel prices have rocketed lol, £1.29 a litre where i am
