Ok just done a quick search of 'Twin Fan Guide' and nothing came up just requests. Think there is one somewhere though if I looked more.

Ive just done mine and taken some pics after of the process.

Very easy to do.

Requires, 2 x Fans mk2 VTR or VTS and a VTS housing, fuse, Wire for battery + earth, switch, suitable connections for earth and battery.

Tools: 10mm Socket, Philips screwdriver, Stanley knife or wire cutters.

How to remove the fan from a car (havnt had to do this, this time round so no pics)

It's not part of the main loom, it connects in the large engine bay fuse box, earth point in front of the battery tray and the connector to the sensor in the top right hand corner of the rad.

Remove the above connections, fuse box will need the yellow tab pushing out then pull out the correct connector, fuse 5 iirc, 2 blue wires on the mk2 setup single red one for mk1 setup, earth bolt is 10mm iirc, radiator sensor just has one of the clips U clips that pull out with some long nose pliers.

Then undo the 2 bolts at the top of the surround again 10mm iirc and lift the fan out of it's lower mounts and feed the cables out from between the rad and slam panel.

Heres the guide for assembling the fan.

Get yourself a VTS fan or Mk2 VTR fan as these fit too. I only got a pic of after, so heres how to undo the fan off a VTS:

Undo the 3 10mm nuts holding the fan in place:

http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg33/dan_sax/saxp%20guides/2011-01-13165451.jpg

undo the clip:

http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg33/dan_sax/saxp%20guides/2011-01-13165458.jpg

undo the philips screw on the housing, for both sides:

http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg33/dan_sax/saxp%20guides/2011-01-13165506.jpg

unclip the relay by twisting and pushing:

http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg33/dan_sax/saxp%20guides/2011-01-13165517.jpg

chop the yellow wire to the fan from the relay:

http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg33/dan_sax/saxp%20guides/2011-01-13165537.jpg

chop the end off the red wire so you can fit ssuitable connection to the +ve battery terminal

http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg33/dan_sax/saxp%20guides/2011-01-13165551.jpg

If you aint sure if the fan works, get a charged battery, heres a 6v I used obviously have the fan off the ground Its only on the floor here as I was takin the pic:

http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg33/dan_sax/saxp%20guides/2011-01-13165633.jpg

Now if it works reassemble into the housing with the 3 10mm nuts.

red +ve obviously goes to the + battery terminal, send this to the switch first with a fuse before. On the other side of the switch have a wire earthing it. The other yellow wire from the fan also earths, so somewhere suitable like inner wing.

Il get pics for the other bits ive just mentioned when I do it in a week or so.

Danny....does the standard fan disconnect somewhere from the rest of the loom???? Just wondered as i wanted to remove the whole housing to clean it up.

The VTS fan has the red wire going up into the fuse box by the look of it. The other one is an earth probably to the inner wing. Its been a while since ive taken a VTS fan off.

If it goes into the loom, which it probably does then I guess it will be the same as the 8valve multiplugs like the lambda ones. If not it will have some sort of connection to disconnect it from the engine loom.

Fitting is just the reversal of this :y:

Good guide by the way db!

When I fitted twin fans to Nicoles vtr, I just cut the vts fan wiring off and then connect the normal vtr fan wiring to it. Works fine lot easier than how you've done it lol
good guide tho :y:

Should be able to and change the fuse or it will keep blowing. Just half the resistance. Wht else does the fuse for the fan share? If anything.

A small amount of Y Reg's still have the MK1 Parts in. Most of them don't as its normally V, W and X reg's in the transition years, but this may be a one off :y:

I was going to put up a guide for swapping out the rad a fan set from a VTR to a VTS/GTI set. I also noticed that the vtr fan was too fat to fit in the dual surround...

I'm actually going to add another fan i just bought to a switch but im thinking about wiring it up another way... What amp fuse did you use for this? Just the same size thats already in the fusebox?

I did the wire cut and shut....
Cut the connector off the VTR loom, and connected the two wires from the VTS fan loom
Now my top fuse has blown :/
Fuse 3 (top right in engine bay - 30A) has blown, but fuse 5 (one beneath fuse 3 - also. 30A) hasn't blown??
Should I have changed the fuses to make this not happen?
Please help as I drive distances that would normally require the fan a few times! Scared of the overheating catastrophe!
Sorry for an old thread bump! But better than another new thread :P

Trying to decide between having a twin fan (using standard fans) or going for a kenlowe single fan kit. Anyone shed any light for me please? obviously the standard fan setup would be a lot cheaper.
cheers
