Anyone out there who has managed to run a reliable turbo saxo for everyday use? If i were to put a small turbo with about 4-6 psi to be safe with standard internals on my vtr, is it possible for it to still be a reliable everyday runner? i do 45 miles a day during the week on the motorway and just general town driving at weekends but i never drive like a bellend or wheel spin etc.

i would say yes, can do a reliable turbo conversion on many cars, im in the process of doingit on my sierra, its going to be on a 2.0l lump i now have, will be running a t25 with around 5-7 psi with a saab 9000 cooler and its going to be my daily driver,
theres been a few daily turbos on here, have a search and a read how they have done it before tyou decide what to do, and aslong as you drive pretty sensibly ie not on boost everywere u go, it shouldnt be to bad on fule, keep us utodate

he means that say the turbo "kicks in" at 3k rpm so just drive below that and you wont be hitting boost

yea i mean like ciarann said, say your turbo kicks in at 3k, just keep it below 3k round town and it wont be on boos so useing less air and fule,

As people have said you can just drive a car off boost. Though it is not that hard to make a reliable turbo car. Don't forget they do diesel and higher power petrol versions of essentially the same engine as in the VTR. So a little boost is no issue if setup well. You can run substantially more if you just change a few bits. On a well mapped car your clutch and diff will become problems far before the engine does. The thing you have to remember though the more power you make the faster thing wear out and the more servicing is required.
Just be aware there are people trying to rip you off out there. There are lots of cheap botched up turbo kits out there. Avoid these at all costs if your after reliability. Last thing you want is a randomly over or under fulling cars, turbos canted over, wrong size turbos, wrong oil pressure, insufficient cooling, some unbranded clutch, cheap oil or anything like that if your aim is reliability.

Already been said but yes you can have a reliable turbo car, mines a daily driver and gets alot of abuse and its doing ok. Its all in the set up, a shit set up wont be reliable, propperly set up and mapped it will be fine.

i use mine everday on standard pistons running just over 200bhp at the wheels. i've never had an engine or turbo related problem *touch wood*! i let it warm up properly and i service it every 3k.

you can go the entire way through the rev range without 'hitting boost'

what clutch would you recomend? Clutch wasnt mentioned in the 'guide to turboing your saxo' on here
