sorry this has probably been asked loads and i have searched but havent found owt conclusive.

soo... long story short. im putting a vtr lump in my 1.1i desire saxo (x reg) and i made sure i got a late silvertop vtr lump, i.e with the cat in the mani, 3 plug ecu, mpi etc. however it didnt come with an ecu, so i got a 3 plug vtr unlocked ecu off of someone, they said it was off of a w reg. but am i right in thinking that the only vtr lumps which came with 3 plug ecus were the later silvertops? in which case it cant be from a w reg. either way will this ecu run the lump ive got?

and also im using my 1.1 box with my vtr engine, should i use a vtr clutch/flywheel or the one from my 1.1?

cheers for any help :y: and sorry if my questions are rather incoherent. i am tired and hungover and not making much sense atm :panic:

I would personaly use a VTR box.
Have u got VTR drive shafts?
The VTR engine will just rip the 1.1 box and clutch to bits would imagine.
Mate did this with a Vauxhall decided to redtop it on a 1.6 box. Just killed the gearbox.

ok so will look out for a vtr box then lol if i put a 1.1 box in it for time being tho could i use my 1.1 driveshafts or would i need the vtr ones? i got a vtr clutch and flywheel with the engine so if thatll fit i was gonna use that

as for the 1.1 box on the vtr engine it will work fine alot of people use this combo for a cheap way to make the car quicker, as long as you do not give it alot of abuse in 1st it should be ok:y:

Well using my mate as an example he used 1.6 driveshafts on a 2L for a week or so driving in a slow manner no wheelspins or going to high revs.... they lasted.
So you might get away with it.
Buy by no means do i advise it

haha well I played with my mates vtr with a 1.1 box on exhuast system and he gave me a good fight until about70-80ish and I had a ph3 cam, manifold,k&n panel filter and full system so it must do something to help performance:y:

I managed to break a gearbox on a old car i had. I had bigger engine in it on standard box. (did it on purpose as was scrapping the car and just needed a gearbox to put on to drive it to scrapper)
Took it out round the industrial estate and it broke after a few harsh launches..
Stripped the gears.

at the end of the day tho you are comparing different cars and it would also depend on the condition of the gear box ect in the first place

don't get me wrong it's not going to make it an animal but it is regarded as a slight up-grade or if you want to look for a good all round box go for a vts or xsi gearbox:y:

im thinkin 1.1 box for now then maybe an xsi or rallye box when i have some more funds available XD that means i can use my 1.1 driveshafts too, right?

tbh I don't know about what shafts to use but put it one way I had a furio box in my old vtr for a temp replacment and I had the wrong shafts which caused the drive shaft not to seal right then all the oil slowly drained and the gearbox ate its own arse:n:

ouch. i shall make sure the shafts seal right XD its quite handy at work theres a guy who used to be a technician at a citroen garage from before the saxo came out till after they finished so hes seen it all so ill pick his brains next week lol thanks for the help man, really needed some peace of mind before i go wrecking anything and end up with no car. You'd use a vtr clutch and flywheel.

As for the gearbox it all depends how you drive it, a mate of mine has had a 1.1 box on his 163bhp cammed vts for 2 years and its been fine.

im glad to hear that lol gives me some confidence in using my box with it at least XD cant wait to have a car with some sort of power.

any ideas on what i said bout the ecu in the original post btw? i know cos its 3 plug its probably a later one so the guy who sold me it is probably a numpty and got the year wrong or summat but wanted to check

did you get a loom with it?

and yea everyone bangs on that they blow up within minutes and wont handle the power, but i've done some really, really hard driving with mine and just gave it a bit of whine! of course if you heavy launch it and rag the living shit out of it, it wont last long (like any g'box)

im not planning on trying to blow it apart lol so should be ok. if not it dont matter i know someone who owns a breakers so hell get me a good deal on a gearbox XD and no but the new lump is a late one, 2002 me thinks, and my 1.1 is a 2000, so both mpi 3 plug ecu etc. so i just got an unlocked ecu for the vtr and was told i could use my 1.1 loom with it?
