I'm looking to get a cheapo Sportex Exhaust and Race Tube from eBay for my VTR:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270701824090&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_1554wt_820
I've had a quick search through the forums and can't find the exact answers to a couple of questions:
- What is needed to fit this kit? Gaskets, Hangers etc. If so how many?
- How easy is it to fit?
- Any tips or advice on how to fit the exhaust itself?
Any help appreciated :y:
Cheers

if you have fit an exhaust before it should be peice of piss, tbh the hangers that are needed should come with it.
for that money id save another 100 and go for a supersprint/kam racing/saxsport/piper.
I just used have a sportex, it was nice but too loud and chavy.
Fitting wise it is easy, as its made for a vtr all the stuff thats needed should come with it.

Cheers, that's the fear I have with the Sportex that's it's too loud...
Gonna give it a month or so, will have another look closer to the time.
The SaxSport one looks pretty good, any reviews on that system?

Use the search button and you will find loads of reviews about them.
I personally arent overstruck on saxsports, the best made exhauast for the saxo is the supersprint.
The website you buy the saxsports off (cant remember what it is)
they take forever to send the item out and also quite regulaly send out the wrong system.
If you have a race tube, with the sportex, it will be loud as fuck, no doubt about it, i used do to alot of motorway miles and it used to do my fucking head in. Weather i was going 2mph or 82mph it would be way to loud whatever the speed.
The 2 plus side's to a sportex is its relitivly cheap, and it pops and bangs all the time if you like that ;)
I'd save my money and get a better stainless system.
Now ive bought a piper and its perfect.

Just seen the piper on eBay for £226 if it's worth the extra £90 I'll go for that one!
Did you fit yours yourself?

yes, very simple and easy.
226 is still abit pricey for a piper, if your gonna pay that much go to Kamracing.com (or.co.uk)
and get the supersprint. Well worth it.

How much did you get your piper for and where from?

i got mine second hand off here, the guy who originally bought it got it off kam racing....
they dont do the back boxes on there anymore, they do the decat pipe though :)

Ok so after having a look around I can't really justify spending a quarter of what I paid for the car on an exhaust system as the whole point in getting the Saxo was as a little runabout for a year or two...
I'd still like to change the back box on the Saxo and this seems to be the most cost effective way of doing so and have a go at fitting it myself

The Sniper exhaust above seems to fit the bill, cheap and cheerful, has anyone got one of these and fitted it themselves?
What exactly do I need to fit this? Hangers are included but I assume I will need an exhaust clamp and gum to seal the connection?
Any help greatly appreciated!

I had a sportex oval with race tube o my vtr, keep the cat in the manifold. It sounded great IMO, nice and deep and not too loud.
Fitting wise you need a v band style clamp for the backbox which is standard fitment and the same bolts and gasket the standard front pipe uses to meet the manifold. Standard rubbers work fine as well

Just get a sportex with a straight through pipe. Good value for money, well made, loud.

Louds what I'm trying to avoid, without spending too much cash, the Sniper looks the same as the Sportex back box but I'll be fitting mine to the existing middle pipe on the car so I'm after advice on fitting the back box to the original pipe...
Back box has been ordered so may just be a case of getting the car on stands and having a nosey :y:

Fitting it to the original pipe: Undo the clamp that attaches the original back back to the centre pipe, should be 1 or 2 13mm nuts to undo depending on the type of clamp. Take the back box off the hangers, hang the new back box then re attach it to the centre pipe with the clamp you just removed. Easy peasy

Cheers! Would you suggest using any exhaust gum or will it seal well enough?

See what its like once youv done the clamp up. If its blowing a bit then you could apply some yes, if not then wouldnt bother

im confused... you said you dont want something to loud yet sportex is one of the loudest decent ish makes IMO.
unless your going down the universal/cherry bomb SHIT route..
got a decent system, a fully stainless one that will last for ages.
it may be more expensive, but i can guarantee you, you will have wished for a better noise and quality 3 months down the road.

I'd been looking at the Sportex and Race Tube package on eBay at about £150 and been recommended the Piper systems at £226...
Being as the car only cost £995, £85 for the Sniper back box if I can fit it myself, get a bit of grunt and look better than the one that is on the car at the moment seems a fair deal...

I'll get a video up as soon as it's on... As long as it lasts the 30 month warranty I'll be happy!
I agree it is a cheap copy of a cheap system but if all else fails I'll stick the original back on.
Hope to get it fitted Sunday morning so watch this space :-)

I had one on my old 1.1 a couple of years back, it was pretty loud at higher revs, and bearable at lower rpms, they are cheap and it did last ok, and easy to fit,

Original exhaust is off, the clamp snapped during removal so will nip to Halfrauds after lunch for another clamp and get the Sniper on...

OK finally got the exhaust on and sorted, had a knocking/grating noise after it had been fitted been sending me crazy trying to locate it and it turned out to be a brake cable on the other side of the car that I must have dislodged during fitting!

For £85 plus a £4 clamp and some grazed knuckles I can't really complain, obviously no power gains but not too loud and looks much better than the box that was on before :y:
My only reservation is it doesn't sit exactly centre but the previous owner cut more of the recess away for presumably a different exhaust before and it does sit in there but again for a DIY job and sub £100 i ain't complaining!
Also removed the spare wheel and carrier, sealed the hole and have some Holt Tyre Weld in the seat pocket to save a bit of weight...

Cheers, I've tightened it up since... Had it back off trying to search for the noise which was the brake cable on the other side!
