i took a trip to smart performance today for a dyno run with my vtr with 106 gti engine, and i was shocked at the the results 155.5 bhp and 157.8 ft-lb torque at flywheel (best run) with the following mods. raceland 4-2-1, straight through custom made ashley center section with a ashley back box welded straight on for no joining restrictions, and a halfords bmc cda style induction kit with cold air feed from the morrete light.
you all will say im lie'ing because there no way i would gain so much from the mods that it has, but on the dyno after me was a astra vxr (240bhp standered) that had straight through exhaust plus knN and that made 256 bhp also a standered focus st (225 bhp standered) that made 222bhp. so im convinced the dyno is pretty accurate. also the dyno is pretty new :)
let me know what you all think!! :P

The engine you have in it now must have been cammed mate, did the person you get it off not say anything to you? What ecu do you have on atm?
Dannyvt_

nope its not cammed because i brought it off my mate who did the conversion its standered cams because he took engine apart to do all seals gaskets etc, its running standered 3 plug 106gti ecu

not cammed and 155bhp what a good rolling road that is try doing a search and u will mind out its crap fella

I think your gonna get ripped apart mate after this thread
Im no expert but I really dont see hows its possible to get a 35bhp increase from an exhaust and induction kit from halfords
I suspect either:
A) Your car has been cammed and you (and your mate) are just not aware of it
B) The dyno wasn't accurate
I know you said about the other cars but that doesnt prove anything mate

as above, its physically not possible for that engine to make those figures with your mods, your talking 35bhp from a filter and exhaust...
edit-devilsadvocate beat me to it

i agree 155 bhp is mentaly to high for a un-cammed saxo. it just weird how a 07 plate focus st made nearly book figures etc plus he has dyno'd other saxo vts's in past and they were making 115 to 130 standered with no mods because he showed me there runs on his computer

you dont know the condition of any engine mate, so you cant compare unfortunatley, dyno must have been a mile out, i wouldnt even say its been cammed, as if your mate was unaware of any cams that may have been fitted during a rebuild.... i doubt theyd be timed well enough to make thoe figures if the dyno was correct

sounds like the clutch was dragging or something. its obvious its not that hp. what was the wheel HP?
when i had my car RR at a college, it made 119@wheels but over 190bhp at flywheel because the rollers werent setup properly and the clutch was dragging cause innacurate coast down.

127bhp at wheels

127bhp at wheels
thats pretty much what i had with throttle bodies, cams, standalone ecu, full group n exhaust, bigger injectors. you make your mind up if its accurate.

very easy to cheat the figures on any rolling road ,if the guy running the rollers wants to make u think u have more bhp ,as dannygti says on the rundown ,a quick touch of the brakes and ur vts is running 155bhp with exhaust and filter

to add to this also.. my mate has a vts with same mods as mine and mine is alot faster than his thats the reson i got it dyno'd because everyone was woundering why mine pulled so much more than his. i am genna take the results with a pinch of salt and im genna go to other dynos to see the results on a diffrent rolling road hopefully i make around the same bhp and i have a super strong one off engine lmao

TBH 155bhp isnt unbelievable.....
...but 157lb/ft from an N/A 1.6 is...

he wouldnt cheat me by touching brake or anything i know the geeza he dynos all my freinds cars ect and i always go watch them on dyno his unit is like 1 miles from my house

i seen the white writing, but beg to differ, 155 from an exhaust and cheap induction kit?

ha ha he dynos all my friends cars :clapping: and u all go there and u all get good bhp reading so u tell ur mate i got --- then he tell someone else the guy running the rollers makes loads of money ,wake up for christ sake fella :wall:

I agree with everybody else.. this figure is way to high for your mods

Ok,my point is more towards that laughable torque figure.
Power figure is miles out too of course.

how is it wen a focus st made 222bhp? thats lower than book! plus who's saying we pay money? i know how u must be feeling 'how the f... is that possible' but like i said im takin it with a pinch of salt im not saying its correct am i?

Mines an s-reg vtr and with a rally s1 box. raceland branch 421 with full system decat and enclosed panel filter i made 109.4bhp @ flywheel on rr with 104 ft lb of torque! i cnt see because its a vts u got those figures but if u did then congrats :afro:

That dyno is completely fucked ! Or you are a bullshit merchant or both
157 lb ft what a joker, look at the graph. Either the graph is off a Vw tfsi engine or made up on photo shop
157lb ft at 1300 rpm only forced induction can do that
Here is a graph of a real cammed car

Notice the torque curve

my cammed vts graph - same torque.
as said, thats a turbo graph, only turbos will give same torque figure.

When you say same,do you mean same or as near as the BHP figure??
If so then thats not true.

same as other graph. or v similar from cammed engine.
i am talking about torque/power relationship.
put a few more graphs up and surely a pattern will emerge. you cant fundamentally change the way it performs if its the same engine.

Unless the OP's car had been fitted with one if those electronic superchargers of. eBay LOL
Vts engines have sod all torque low down, the numbers on the two graphs we have posted are irrelevant , what is relevant is the torque & power Curve shapes
The two runs we have were done on different rolling roads on different days

that graph is bullshit lol thats just not how a VTS engine performs
devilsadvocate
13th February 2011, 10:33
If im not mistaken, the graph is saying 150bhp at 2500rpm?
Surely you would need forced induction to get that sort of power low down?
