depends on the how the car has been treated... if early in its life it was regular slammed deep into the red on the rev range i wouldn't be too keen on keeping it. But it has been looked after, regularly serviced, treated relatively gently then there no reason why it wouldnt go past 120k without any major issues.
as for the rest of the car that another matter.
also the engines were continously tweaked by the citroen engineers since the saxo introduction many moons ago. Provided all major issues were ironed out early on the older engines are likely to have a greater tolerance (i.e. over engineered slightly) thus could last longer.
However the refinements in the updated version of the engine mean that it could be just as robust despite being relatively less over engineered.
Word on the streets is mine will happily plod on to 250k before becoming a pain. pow

i have a 1998 (s reg) with 96k on the clock and its been running with a cam and engine mods for years. its never missed a beat engine wise touch wood.lol
as long as you service the car often and use good quality gear there should be no real troubles for ages, ive seen petrols one at fcs with 127k on the clock...

We could talk about mileage all day but whats better?
An Saxo with 25k on the clock that has been RAPED from new, and not run in properly. Or a Saxo with 100k on the clock thats been looked after?
Just because it has low mileage it does not make the car better in anyway.
Besides, its just numbers on a clock!

Ive got R reg (98) with 89k on the clock, might seem high but it was 1 owner before me- a middle aged fairly posh woman. its been serviced every 10k and being posh and well off they paid for full service each time instead of just usual small changes. Just passed MOT again last week without any problem

I agree with cam, I have one with 96k and a newer one with 118k on the clock. Both start and run great and go all the way to the red line often. Just about to strip the one at 118k to pocket the pistons ready for the head which i have just posted and polished. fitted with 320 cams as it is going to be a track car. hope this helps.

I have an 1998 S reg 1.4 Westcoast. Was on 55k when bought in November, now on 64k. I get it serviced every 6 month, using quality Magnatex oil.
Its got a FSH all stamped in book, so i know its been looked after.
At the end of the day, if the car has been looked after and treated right, its got no problems going over the 100k mark.
My Grandad had a 1.4 J reg Chavalier with 153k on the clock, still running fine when it was sold.

A low mileage car is not always a good thing though. If it is an early VTR with low mileage then it might have just been used to do short journeys which means the engine hasn't had time to heat up properly which is not very good for it. Motorway miles are never really a bad thing
Mine is average mileage as it's an almost 7 year old car with 74k on the clock. As long as it's been looked after then it shouldn't matter
My dad spent years in the car trade and said he could always tell the cars that had been looked after just by driving them round the block and this was regardless of mileage

i thought i paid a lot for mine but whoever sold you your saxo clearly saw you coming ( no offence ) I paid £2500 for a V reg saxo with 41 on the clock with FSH.
Then again i've just re-read your quote what saxo is it?? VTR/S or something smaller?

Mine is a Yreg, 38750 on the clock, but a new gearbox is the order of the day. The bloke before must have hammered it....
