Hi,
Just got my self a citroen saxo 1.1 forte on a w reg plate.
Drove it home fine about 20 miles on the motorway with no problems.
But this week it has started to bunny hop really badly from start up,sometimes it goes after 5/10 mins.
So i thought i would service it,so my beloved changed the oil/filter and air filter, cleaned the plugs changed the aux belt.
But the car seems just the same as before, its starts ok but sounds like its misfiring and revs allover the place.
Done a search on here and it could be one of 3 or 4 problems
Stepper motor?
Coil Pack.
CAT
Headgasket?
I dont want to start throwing alot of money at it, i have only just got it.
Any help would be appreciated
Maggie.

My GF's 1.1 saxo did this, so i checked the engine mounts and the prone ecu mounted mount bolt snapped clean in half, changed the mount and fixed the problem :y:

The ECU mounts seem ok.
Went to start it earlier and its sounds really bad like a misfire and a smell of fuel, will run for a bit but cuts out.
Could it be the coil pack.?

also you could try cleaning the idle control valve
or change the coil pack

I would start off with the free fixes of any possibilities,
- Clean the Idle control Valve (stepper motor)
- Clean any sensors around the throttle body
- Replace the fuel filter if you havnt already
See how it runs then, if the problem persists, I would look at getting a compression test done then if thats ok a diognostics test done to see if there are any errors logged. Could possibly be the LAMBDA so try another.
Does the problem happen when the engine is cold or hot?

Idle control valve is that fixed on the front of the carb a black square thing with a multiplug connection and has a little spring plunger thing on it?
If its that taken it off today but not much to see or clean as its a sealed unit.

The problem has happened first when the engine was cold but then went, but has happened when engine was warmed up today.

Sometimes when the Cat is on its way out you get a fuel smell.

CAT would that cause all this misfire and running probs.?

Could be the HT leads

I thinks its going to be a process of illimination, and an expensive one as well.

CAT would that cause all this misfire and running probs.?
Yes they can it causes a higher co2 rate.:y:

When it revs all over the place, is that when it is misfiring, or is it when it stops misfiring the revs come back strong?
maggie38
13th March 2011, 19:49
When its misfiring the revs are allover the place,it then cuts out.

try disconnecting the temp sensors [gearbox end of block green and blue] and see how it runs. The ECU goes into default mode so that it will run without them.
Other than that it could be coilpack, lambda sensor. Does it misfire all the time when hot or does the problem come and go?

When i started it up earlier from cold it misfired badly, then cut out,the car was cold.
It also misfired when it was warm but it was difficult to keep the revs going.

just had same problem with my vts
had it diagnosed and it was coil pack so had to buy new one now its better than ever, put in new plugs too,
could be a number of things tbh and mulitple things , best to get it on diagnosis machine to find fault code it could be a cheap fix if your that lucky

That can also be sensor related IE the coolant temperature sensor(green 1)they cost around £16.00 from eurocarparts.

Just try what we said- its free and easy to do, you'll save a garage bill. But why did you ask us if you are taking it to a garage anyhow?

Only to get the fault/diagnotic codes to fix myself dont have the money to buy all the possible causes IE coilpack, stepper motor,CAT.

You cant get the codes off us unless we plug our machine in. All we can do is give you educated guesses. And I already said, try the free fix.
