View Full Version : Important! : Oil Leak

All,

Just opened up my bonnet to fill my screen wash as I seem to have quite a severe oil leak.

I just topped it up as the dipstick was showing it was really low. Does anyone know what this could be?

It seems to be coming from just below the manifold and is covering everything below it.

Any help would be great. Cheers.

its leaking from your head gasket mate its either away or your headbolts arent torqd down properly is it leaking just above the alternator? as its a very common point were the head gasket fails

Yeah it is mate, means its the head gasket then? How much do these roughly cost to get done?

a garage wud charge around 300-400. or you can spend 50-100 max on parts and just do it urself. thats wat i done but only spent 10 on the gasket lol
there is a video on youtube of a dude changing his 106 head gasket which is the exact same as your posi 1.1. all the tools you need is 20nm torq wrench sockets spanners and torq bits

I found that on eBay, would it be the one to use. Does using the kit have anything to do with skimming? I just havent had to do one before.

all skimming does is shave away a thin layer off the underside of the head to give a completely flat surface because if the surface isnt flat the head gasket can fail were it isnt flush with the block.

the only thing you need from that gasket kit is the big one with the four holes (in simple terms). the rest are for things like the water pump oil pump oil filter seal, valve seals. if you are planning on taking the whole engine apart tehn you think about using all these but you just go to your local motor factors ask for a head gasket you can get either tu1 or tu3 both the same. then ask on here who can skim ur head for ya who is close by.

if you have a haynes manual your flying. just dont fuk up your timing

Thanks mate appreciate the help. Ive got a haynes manual, where abouts am I looking as I've gone through it but cant seem to find the right part. How would I mess the timing up?

What does it take to skim the head? Is it a special tool?

Cheers again.

should be page 2A*15. cylinder head removal and refiiting.

dont know much about skimming its a big machine that does it. or you can use a flat edge and check urself that the head is completely flat. i didnt do it anyway lol.

when u take your cambelt cover off, take the spark plugs out and habd turn the engine until the hole in one of the spokes in the cam pulley lines up with the hole in the head, should be aboutthe 2 oclock position. then use a small drill bit and just behind the dipstick there is a hole in the block to lock the flywheel in place. (this is shown in that video on youtube. youtubehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdeYBPC3YeM.

there it is there just copy and paste that URL it is extremely helpful and funny lol

once you put the drill bit in the flywheel hand turn the engine to see if the drill bit stops you from turning it. then you go about taking everything out. then just put a drill bit in the cam pulley and mark off wee reference points on the teeth and belt (so you can line it up on refitting) then undo your tensioner (which is a wee bastid) and slide off the belt then undo head bolts. just to be paranoid put headbolts into a bit of cardboard and number on the card which bolt goes were as they ar subjected to different types of wear and tear in their own hole. (seen this on wheeler dealers lol)

drain your coolant system aswel the dude in the video doesnt lol

and all i can say is good luck mate, dont be afraid to get your hands dirty

any problems just pm me mate :y:
