I've just found out that instead of using back to black etc for your bumpstrips you can use oil.

By accident only yesterday some oil went on my bumpstrip and i rubbed it in for some reason, then tried to wash it off but it wasn't having it.

And now today, that because its soaked in its gone darker than before and as it won't wash off i reckon it'll be permanent.

So there you have it, instead of back to blacking your bump strips everyday just get some regular 10w40 on it.

One with oil on it ..

One without ..

Anyone see the difference ?

If you do try this ..
Becareful applying as i didn't know how much i spilt.

oil and penut butter on your bump strips will help the sun to bleech them and also make them very brittle just use the guide on here on how to do it propperly.

Boiled linseed oil is what I use on my ancient golf, it's outstanding but quite messy & also highly combustible

The number of times ive seen people saying to just use oil or peanut butter.

You could always use products made for the job....

Products cost ..
And oil is a one off treatment.

Why boiled?

I don't understand, do you mean constantly boiling and you brush it on then work it in, whiles its boiling away still?

Did it work and look good? How long did it last?

Is it only me that thinks they dont even look that good? Seen much better results - looks better than the untreated side but that's not exactly difficult.

No, it's called boiled linseed oil you don't do any boiling yourself :D

You can get raw linseed oil or boiled, boiled is better apparently... B&Q sell it.

Here is a pic of my golf front bumper before

and this is an after

It last a couple of weeks but its very cheap, the best perm trim restorer is G4 tecniq or but it costs a lot this is a cheaper alternative for my golf which I'm happy with.

Do you have a before shot?

Is it better and more durable then back to black? Don't you get flys and insects stuck to it?

I don't have a before one of it off the car, that was just before I removed it.

The pic is a huge res so should be quite clear, as you can see it was totally grey!

The finish does attract a bit of dust but it's not that bad.
