View Full Version : finally got to the bottom of a strange running fault, worth a read guys,

since finishing my ph1 106 build, its had an intermittent idle/missfire. being intermittent it was a git to try and diagnose,so after going over the whole lot, sensors, fuel pump ecu etc etc,
i was pretty certain it was map sensor related, as it was hunting badly.
anyhow. id swapped sensors out to little effect until i got really fed up wit it last night, and pulled all the insulation off the loom from ecu to map sensor and sure enough the white wire to the map was mostly broken right through, when stationary it was making a reasonable connection although somewhat corroded, but as soon as the engine moved a small amount it broke the connection!!!!!!!!! :panic:

so ive just gone through all my spare looms too check the plugs and of 4 looms 3 have damaged wiring to the map sensor! so it must be a common fault of sorts as its quite tight between the ecu and sensor itself the cable it taught!
ive now sorted another plug with longer tails and so far soo good!

il get a piccy up as soon as photobucket sorts it life out but i bet theres plenty of cars out there with the same fault!

tommy :panic:

Nice one, these looms do tend to deteriorate after time.

cheers colin, its clearly a slight design issue with the loom as theres alot of tension on that section, il probably swap too a standalone map like the rallyes use when my pred arrives, be a better setup i think!

I'm going to double check mine. This might just help me out.

Thanks for the post. It's not often members make the effort to post such things.:y:

ive been having a right ballache on this one, ive been playing with them since they where in warranty but ive never seen it before,
so i guessed its worth a shout,
i bet theres plenty of people that are changing coilpacks and fuelpump relays trying to find this one........
hopefully it will save someone some agro!

soldered the new plug on this evening and jobs a goodun! runs considerably smoother now too.
the cable was only still attached by a single strand amazingly! im not sure how long its been like it but its another job off the list.

seen it a number of times now on the map sensor, very common for the wiring to fail there!
