Using my fone and done a few searches can't find anything.
Anyway as some of you may know my car failed on emissions and has also picked up a misfire.
Now for a few month iv been thinking about getting a vtr engine when my clutch finaly gives in. Now heard am gettin some more compo from army was thinking with the misfire and emissions fail what better time to change. But thinking instead go all way and get a vts. Iv just had an operation on my shoulder so out of action for a while so got time to plan and prep.
So could someone help me with what exactly I need ect.
At the mo my car is an early phase2 1.4 8v with a 1 plug ecu and exhaust set up is with the under floor cat.
So what would I need other than the lump and gearbox? Do I still need a 1 plug ecu and does the engine have to come from a mk1 or early mk2. Do I just need engine loom etc. Also I have an induction kit and an under floor decat pipe on my 1.4. Could I use these on the vts?
Any help will be much appreciated :)

idealy youd need a vts engine from the same year as your car and you will need engine, gearbox, loom and a unlocked ecu and manifold, im sure thats all you need, im not sure the induction kit will fit as the tb is bigger on a vts but the de-cat pipe will be fine. you can use your exaust system from the mani back

u need a engine from the same year, as when ph2's came out they were fitting alsorts of crossover looms and such, same year it will fit, and yes single plug!

Ok cheers guys. Glad the de-cat will fit. As for induction I'll just get a diff size elbow. So as long as its exactly same year it should be fine? What if I got a 1plug ecu but it wasn't the same year? Would I have problems with wiring the loom etc?

yeah if you get an elbow with rite size for vts tb will be fine mate, yeah same year will be fine mate, the ecu itself?? aslong as its one plug and its from a vts and its unlocked it will be fine mate

I'll try me best to get engine with ecu and loom etc but let's say I come across a cheep engine that's from a phase 1. With 1plug ecu. Would that fit? Let's say its from year before mine but still 1plug.lol. Sorry if I'm pecking head just looking at as many opportunities as I can. Oh would my gearbox fit or is it different fitment all together? Also do I need stronger brakes or driveshafts or anything else?

from my experience any year engine will work ive got a 2002 106 gti engine in early ph2 vtr, and ive done a couple of other conversion with engine from different years, so you dont have to get the one from the same year say if you find one alot cheap from a diffrent year saxo, basically the problem you will have from a diffrent year engine is the connection of the engine bay wiring loom and the interior wiring loom on the bottom left hand side of your engine bay, idealy you want to buy the engine, gearbox, loom, ecu but thats how most people sell them anyway. if you get all that from a diffrent year say 3 plug vts engine the looms may not connect up wich will then mean ul have to get the loom spliced to the other connecter for them to connect up,
and your gearbox would fit on the vts engine yes, some people do it for the ratios of the gearbox, but its better to just put the vts box on the vts engine, nope dont need uprated driveshafts, or brakes but id recommend getting some better brakes as even vts and vtr standard brakes are quite pony for the power of a vts.
you could do a disc axle conversion aswell which is quite simple but its not compulsary, some people do it some people dont
hope this helps mate :)

Yeah that's help a lot mate. So if I get everything that matches its basically just plug and play like it would be if I fitted a vts? Would I need to change my speedo dials or gearstick or anything else you can think of?
Hope I get this money soon and my arms starts working so I can get the car back on the road. May consider the rear axle swap, not 100% sure yet. Iv heard it doesn't brake as well but also heard it brakes better. I'll do more research on that another time. Thanks for all your help mate and will post a heads up when I'm shopping for one or when I'm installing one etc :)

yeah basically mate will jus be plug and play :), nope you wont have to change anything like that mate, get the engine in then decide what you want todo with the brakes but i would advise upgrading the fronts, if you need any further help pm me mate :)
