engine,ecu question

Right my ecu is chipped and my engines cambelt has snapped so my question is if I get another engine from an ecu that wasn't chipped will it start properly and work with my chipped ecu?

The ECU just tells the engine what to do so providing your original engine was standard you'll have no problem
