Does everyone declare there mods ?. As i got pulled the other week and they said it was a routine stop check to see if everything was ok with my car.
They checked everything and it all came back fine :), They also said if they wanted to they could check my mods on my insurance and that they are clamping down on people not declaring them :/. fortunately i had put my mods on my insurance this year. But to the people that don't put them on they are clamping down big time.

Why is that the case?
Surely they are just enforcing the traffic laws?
Police don't make the laws so you can't call them nobs for trying to enforce them.

I have only ever been pulled once and I have owned two Saxo's and a 106 and the police were fine with me
I have spoken to the police several times whilst being in other peoples cars and they were fine as well
If you get the arse and speak to them like shit then they are going to give you a hard time, speak to them with respect then you will be fine in my opinion

I went for ages without declaring my mods but when i renewed my insurance with chris knott it didnt make a difference in price with or without the mods so i would be silly not to declare them.
Also in relation to the police discussion, i got pulled by the north yorkshire rozzers once and they started rollocking me about being a menace to the road and its people like me that kill people leaving them with broken families. All i did was pull into a one way street the wrong way to swing the car around, this was in the middle of the night.
Sometimes they take the biscuit even if you try to be polite as possible, on the other hand i spoke to a bloke from humberside police and he told me that the north yorkshire lot were cunts lol.

If you're one of these with the Gift of the Gab you'll probably be fine lol.
If I had mods, which I don't because it would be to expensive for insurance, I would declare them. Simply because I am the unluckiest person in the word. I reckon most people would get away with it no bother - but they seem to love making a right example out of me. One time I got sent to court for holding a spliff that didn't even belong to me... I know you'd think there must be more to it than that, but that was literally IT. Sent to court lol, unbelivable - I also see them driving behind me all the time doing insurance checks on their little phones lol, really don't understand what it is about me and the police... I'm always really polite as well I never give them any attitude.

i think insurance on mods is daft. they should do the system where you do have to declare them but its your choice to cover them or not. yes on engine performance parts have them a must on paying extra. as for tints, sound system etc should be your choice, if it gets robbed or damaged and your covered fine, if not then you still carry on your insurance and it wont be affected. that way more people would declare there mods i would imagine....
maybe its a stupid idea i dont know, just a thought

I think the way insurance companies think about it is that if you have styling mods then it makes the car more attractive to thieves so is more of a risk of being stolen etc

yeah thats true i suppose lol
but then if car gets nicked then they just pay up value of the car, and pay the mods if you cover them

well, my brake lights arent declared, but they were on when i got it and i cant see an option for declaring them on my insurers page. BUT i just did a quick meerkat comparison, to see what it would be like if i got alloys and declared. turns out, another company will give me it for £400 less than im paying now! be bearing that in mind for november ;)

haha yeah too right, the insurance companies will use any excuse not to pay out these days!
Allthough my last car was written off because of someone driving into the back of me, the insurance assessor guy who came round to look at the the car didnt even check under the bonnet... i could have had a completely different engine in it!!

Lol nah it's a bit different... If you had so much they could do you for intent to supply you go to court fair enough but a joint... doesn't really matter if it was mine or it wasn't... that's not court worthy. 5 hours in court to get an absolute discharge is a complete waste of public spending imo.
Imagine getting sent to court for a breaklight being out or something... that kind of ridiculous.

Uou would have to be really unlucky for the insurers not to pay out over an air filter tbh there is too much bullshit in this thread.
My old car was a fiat stilo lowered with alloy wheels, a boomer and a sound system. That was involved in 2 accidents that required an assessor to come out from insurance companies and nobody ever mentioned the mods.
Another thing i picked up on earlier, somebody said the police can check if your mods are declared or not but i dont see how without actually ringing them and asking them? Again another scare tactic I think.

I agree its just an example of a copper bieng a cock end. Standard procedure for a bit of weed is just confiscation and a warning round here. They love wasting out money, I got taken to court the other week for having no insurance apparently, i sent them my cert and they still said I had to go to court, needless to say it was dropped as soon as i turned up. :homme:

the insurance perspective is that your car may not have been nicked at all if it wasn't more attractive then the one parked down the street. Hence the rise in insurance premium.
And as for declaring tints and insurance companies allowing them. Not gonna happen. Any tints on the front windows are illegal. Full stop.
blackie_2k5
27th July 2011, 14:58
everyone sais that ross... but theyre not illegal so long as they dont block more then the % or requird liht these days(i cant remember it tbh) which i aggree is quite un common, butnot impossible
but as for insurance they are clamping down, they are allowed to ring the insurer by the side of the road if possible, and as long as the insurer aggrees(which they dont have to as it not legally required to hand out details) they can ask if mods are declared
about 5 or 6 of the corsa lads have had their cars impounded for having illegal redtop/LET conversions up here recently

CLEAR glass only transmits about 85% of visible light. Add the standard factory tint and you're at 70% quicker than a fast thing. Custom window tint on there too, and you're over the limit. :(
Even "Light smoke" is generally 35% tint - FAR more than what's allowed. :( I'd love to have a subtle tint on my windows, but wont for that very reason. There's enough reasons for the old bill to pull me over as it is ;)

One of my mates got pulled and they checked that he'd declared his mods at the road side by calling the insurance company....
Always declared mine, not worth the risk imo. Colour coded bumpers, smoked jewels, 266 brakes and lowering my car 50mm only put it up £35 anyway!

Recently my car got vandalised, and i obviously had to ring the police to report what had gone on.
they arrived and even then they asked ALOT about my car. purely because my intercooler had been kicked in and they had to note down all damages. so they thought huh? intercooler on a saxo.... soon as i saw them look at it i knew they were gunna ask. is this turbo... yea mate... does your insurance know?...
imagine if id of said. erm no....
i said yea every mod is declared. which it is. they still rang insurance to double check. i was half tempted to not declare my mods... to save some money. glad as fuck i spent the little extra and told my insuarnce.
stay on the clean side of the law. it might never happen to you, but then again it could. the first time you could drive down your street with a new exhaust system on or whatever, and hit a child. your insurance will be void and you WILL go to jail if you cause serious injury. let alone the hefty fines.
