View Full Version : Best sounding bacbox?

currently have a KamRacing full system on my 16v but its not quite the sound i was hoping for, doesnt pop or bang and it isn't half as raspy as some of the saxo's i heard round the track at FCS. what are people's opinions on the best sounding backbox (coupled with a straight through pipe)? Is the supersprint any better? a lad local to me has a standard VTR other than induction kit and it sounds immense, always pops when decellerating but im not sure what backbox it is. looks like a smaller tail pipe than the kam racing....

Supersprints sound different to Kamracing something to do with the Kam backbox being shorter than the supersprint i think.
My superpsrint is raspy with foot down and pops quite a bit, so id say try that :y:

iv just put my supersprint on yesterday and it sounds wicked, even on just a furio but now i need to get the cat off to get it's full noise which is a bit annoying !

Could try the Sportex 3" backbox with there "Race Tube" centre section, just the backbox on mine makes a nice pur when idling and sounds great under throttle

If it's a de-cat centre pipe it should pop. Have you still got a standard mani? Saxsport all day long for me. Might be the way you drive?

I doubt our system is the cause of the lack of pops and bangs. Its not that big a silencer!

hmmm had my heat set on one of those silencers and am now haven second thoughts, anyone else had the kam racing one and then decided it wasnt a good enough rally raspy sound and changed it???

youtube is your friend. Plenty of cars running our system and they pop and bang on overrun. Its a shorter backbox than the supersprint but is an 8" diameter. Its louder than the saxsport by a db or so.

fair play, not sure what else it could be though as it was the same on my VTR! any ideas?

I got a piper 3" straight through get pops and bangs, mainly more when the engine is higher up the rev range or when exhaust is hot then does it at low revs alot :)

as a current exhaust thread here we go, first post so hi guys!
Been offered a 1.4 saxo (mk1) at a silly price from a mate that i know looks after his cars and is in good nick so i shall be a saxo owner before the weekend is over!
Now it has the standard exhaust on it at the moment - i am going to be looking into putting a new (full) system on it - problem is, im a bit lost. I want a raspy sound that bangs and pops - my MGB sebring track car screams but has a deeper sound (not that i would dare put the race system on a sax!), i want something that is a lighter rasp that pops and bangs (im sure you are all aware of the note i am looking for). what do you guys recomend?
I am new to french cars (car history has been seat, nissan, BMW, MG and holden although i had a clio that was kept completely standard) so will i be able to use a vts manifold and system? I would persume so as arent the main engine differeces that the vts is a bored out (obviously from factory) 1.4 with a 16v head on it?

8v exhaust port spacing is different so you need an 8v manifold.
If you want to maximise power and get a truely great sound then as DanT mentioned.
The full Supersprint system with Supersprint manifold (http://www.kamracing.co.uk/citroen/citroen-saxo/saxo-exhaust/exhaust-manifold/supersprint-inox-race-manifold-citroen-saxo-8v.html) and Race Exhaust (http://www.kamracing.co.uk/citroen/citroen-saxo/saxo-exhaust/full-exhaust-systems/citroen-saxo-supersprint-race-exhaust-system-exclusive-to-kam-racing.html) is rather nice.

I got a piper 3" straight through get pops and bangs, mainly more when the engine is higher up the rev range or when exhaust is hot then does it at low revs alot :)
The piper has an inch and a half of extra silencer than the KR Backbox (http://www.kamracing.co.uk/citroen/citroen-saxo/saxo-exhaust/exhaust-backbox/kam-racing-stainless-steel-race-backbox-citroen-saxo.html). When I designed it I wanted a smooth bend so had to lengthen the pipe at back at the expense of noise reduction.
Sounds to me like the car in question is fuelling very nicely or its not doing something on overrun.
Maybe some longer duration 1321708 camshafts (http://www.kamracing.co.uk/citroen/citroen-saxo/saxo-engine/camshafts/citroen-saxo-vts-fast-road-camshafts-cat-cams-1321708.html) are needed to get fuel into the exhaust :D

Thanks,
So the VTR manifold will fit? I am all for a bit of fettling but I think i shall leave the TS mani for the 16v head in that case!!

The car does seem to run very week indeed, no misfeing or nothing, but if you do stand behind the car and rev it can smell the fuel slightly but I guess that's just because of having no cat, would those run wothout a remap? Think one of my stem seals is bit slightly wearing get the odd puff of blue smoke when start it up from cold every know and then wanna sort that out first but dunno who to take it to :/

I dont think theres a better flowing exhaust than the supersprint (http://www.kamracing.co.uk/citroen/citroen-saxo/saxo-exhaust/full-exhaust-systems/citroen-saxo-supersprint-race-exhaust-system-exclusive-to-kam-racing.html) and the KAM Racing ones (http://www.kamracing.co.uk/citroen/citroen-saxo/saxo-exhaust/full-exhaust-systems/kam-racing-kam-racing-race-exhaust-system.html).
