Right got a gti today drive back was ok until it got to 1/4 tank and randomly cut out a few times but got going again once cranked over a bit, got home and had a proper look had one of them proper shit adjustable fprs on so took that off and connected the return line back up to how it should.

Idles ok I guess about 900/950 ish initial drive without said shit attachment was fine no problems but on the 8 mile return journey from picking mum up from work when you put your foot down slightly anything above 2.5k and it shuddered didn't go and bogged down. Now if you feathered the throttle or just kept foot down it would pick up a bit but not normal.

Thinking in terms of sensors tps and map any other suggestions at all? or what it could be

yes if you have the toold check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail, if not check the filter and see what colour the fuel is
also check the wiring to the map sensor as ive seen the break on a few and cause running problems

does it do it more under load (is it worse going up hill compared to going down)

it is basically under load only regardless of going up hill or down it will do the same thing shudder not pick up speed sort of like when you run out of fuel but if you feather the throttle slowly it will pick up but if you just out foot to floor it will do that and pick up but jerky

my vtr does this on boost if running 1/4 tank or less since fitting the turbo, ive got it down to pump/filter/FPR

maybe the FPR or pump is goosed and thats why the FPR was fitted, or maybe the FPR was fitted to gain more power as ppl seem to believe, and its fucked the pump in the process??

nah it was fitted with the supercharger ill see tomorrow got a crank sensor I can change plus fuel filter/redex, injector cleaner won't cost much

Reporting back on the mater drove it this morning to halford and it seemed fine so put some injector cleaner down it went for another drive seemed ok again but same problem crept up so back to halfords got some cable ties off my mate and checked the cps looks like the clip on the plug is broken so even tho you push the plug in the more you drove it the bit by bit it worked itself out.

So cabled tied that tight so it didn't move went for another drive and it was much better full revs went well but again again a few miles it started doing the same thing but not as bad got home jacked car up changed fuel filter went for another drive and this time everything seemed much better without any of the aforementioned problems creeping up again.

Going for another drive in a bit to see how it is then tomorrow morning will take it for a long drive and see how it copes all in "it seems" to be fixed, although if it was my car I'd give it a plug, oil, oil filter service aswell but since its not oh well

my megan had that sort of prob when the filter was blocked, fuel coming out of it was black lol, the shit in it settles at lowest point when you dont use it, but then ruffles up when the pump starts working and after a few miles its bloacked all the element again... hopefully yours is the same

easy fix then!

I had this problem with my gti when I first bought it turned out to be the lambda sensor

When you mention CPS that's the crank position sensor? Where is that located?

Glad you have sorted it. Took my car for a short drive, and it does the same until boost kicks in then sorts it self out. But then when I change gear does the same it's like it's not got any power.

Gunna look at fuel filter this week and get some injector cleaner aswell.

My furio done this get to 2500 - 3000rpm then only sometimes i would throttle and it would jolt a bit then try die then make no power what so ever, let go of throttle and give it some again and it would be fine, turn out to be map sensor.
Plag a diagnostic controller :y:
