Been looking at getting these for my vts, from reading on this site they run on standard timing. But vts/ gti cam pulleys are adjustable so I was just going to make sure mine are in the middle of their range of adjustment when I fit them and leave the cam covers off when I take it for mapping so the timing can be adjusted if needs be.

How much did u pay for your cams if you don't mind me asking and what other plans have u got? Looks like you're heading in a similar direction to where I want to go with mine!

Ok mate cool, thanks.
Ye I'm getting the cams fitted next week and then I'm going throttle bodies then re mapped.
Think that will be the stage that I would want it at without having to do anymore.

Defo best to get cams before you get throttle bodies.
I've heard so many people say not to throttle body it without camming it first.
Also I went for the Newman ph3 cams as there the wildest cams available without changing pistons etc.
Also the cat cams are pretty much the same too, think it's just down to Wich ever ones you decide to go for really.

Think I know the ones from the classifieds? Was thinking about them but decided I'd rather find another 30 quid and get some brand brand new from kam or wherever.

So what bodies are u gonna go for? I was planning on keeping my standard inlet and tb, but if there's good gains at a cheap price to be had with bodies I might have to think about them!

I'm pretty sure the newmans site has the timing for these cams.

Plus you'll want to double check whether they need running in or not with Newmans

Think it also says on the Newman website they dont really need runnin in!! For me though might b a week or two before I can get mapped so wld need to adjust cams for a little while so they dnt drive like a complete sack of shit!!

Ok guys so cos I'm not getting a re map straight away due to waiting until I've got the bodies am I right in saying if I just get them fitted will the timings just be set up correctly when I do take it for a re map.
If this is correct will I still see any benefits with they fitted.
Thanks

Only a little, u will feel a slight gain by sounds of things, it will hav more urge but won't c the full benefit till it's mapped!! And it may idle a bit shit and cut out ocasonialy iv been told! Dyin to get mine fitted now, jst a matter of funds! Always the way!

That's same as me mate can't buy something and have it lying around waiting to be fitted lol.
Will just be doing my head it wanting it re mapped but will just have to be sensible and wait till I've got the bodies so I don't have to pay twice to have it mapped but hey ho.

my mate has a 106 gti with similar mods to mine but he has bodies and he had it mapped at chip wizards and he got:
161.1 Bhp Atf & 140.7 Atw
would have thought this is a very realistic figure.

Wouldn't say atpower are the best.

One of the easiest, to fit and get running on.

But would say that bike bodies conversion ones, maybe best overall bodies.

No really answer to the best, if I did it again I would of used bike bodies over the at power ones I have. ( got them cheaper than the standard price)

I got these cams new in box and ported polished head for £350 delivered of eBay, they run terribly on standard ECU a have to tick over between 1200-1600 to run and retard ignition loads! O as mine was 3pin ECU only Wayne at chipwizard and one other person could map it he spent 6hrs doing it 3yrs ago now and has never let me down once! I do atleast 6 trackdays a year and have numerous in car videos to see how quick mine is! The difference over standard is amazing it'slike going from a 1.0 to vts! Hope this helps

sounds good to me :) my vts engine goes in on the 17 sep mine is ported and polished as well will get cams soon, thats good for 350 for the head mine was 500.

i liked them. only felt the difference when i went back to standard. It's all in the mapping and the ECU. i got 165 with a hydra nemesis and was mapped by richard bulmer at traktive. i got ecu cheap really and sold it cheap! look for a second hand KMS or something - best way.
