Problem with the Saxo

Hello all, new poster.

Just driven my Saxo down the road, on the way back up I lost a lot of power just after changing gear.

Engine management light started flashing, and there was a rattling from around the exhaust.

Just had the car MOT'd with some exhaust repairs down, so I would have thought the mechanic would have picked up on anything dodgy with the exhaust?

Feels very sluggish, like it wants to stall, but it keeps moving, just about!!

Any thoughts as to what it might be?

It has served me very very well, on around 85k miles now.

insides of the cat have broken up, lack of power is probably down to the pieces blocking the exhaust

And an estimated cost (parts and labour) to get this fixed would be?...
