ok since the piston went on my old s iv managed to get my hands on a new one.
but whilst its already out and in pieces i though im best rebuilding it now whilst its out and make sure its running smoothly.

im replacing all the gaskets, cams, pullys. manifold, all belts, clutch, and im considering having my gear box rebuilt. anything else that im missing which would be worth it?
i no its a costly way of doing things, but tbh i cant see my self driving anything else for a couple of years :A:

I wouldnt bother replacing the cams, pulleys, manifold; unless you know they are worn, those parts will be fine and go on forever. You might as well do the rings seeing as youre changing a piston, Id do the valve stem seals as well, but imo everything else is throwing money at it for the sake of it.

I would do all the seals/gaskets while the engines out the car, but as I said dont bother with the cams pulleys and manifold unless you mean going for aftermarket stuff.

iv got a new engine to go in, its just the rocker covers are all ready off, so whilst the top end is off i was considering performance cams and pullys whilst its being put back together, all gaskets and seals will be changed, cams pullys. would the valves and injectors be worth replacing? manifold would be an bonus because i have a new unused saxsport here not sold, and gearbox is off so would it be worth while me looking in too reconditioning it or finding a reconditioned one for a good price?

Opinions appreciated :A:

cheers buddy :y:

Cams yeah, why not. I wouldnt bother with aftermarket pulleys, the standard ones are adjustable anyway so aftermarket ones dont really offer much except looks.

I wouldnt bother replacing the valves unless they look shagged, but you can get injectors cleaned for about £30, so wouldnt hurt to do that if the milage is high.

Gearboxes are quite dear to recon unless you do it yourself, so once again, if its ok, Id just clean it up and leave it as is. Ive seen recon ones go for about 350, so you need to think if its worth that, or taking a gamble on the one you have and getting another cheapo to replace it if it goes tits up.
