Looking in to getting the turbo kit from atspeedracing http://atspeedracing.co.uk/products/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4_5&products_id=21
Has anyone bought a kit like this before and know if everything comes with them to bolt on? Cheers.

Looking at there website its really not a bad price for what you get in the kit. I imagine it would come with bolts and gaskets etc. But it does not come with ecu, injectors, pistons, cooler etc so I'd say double the price again and now your talking

Well you can get a turbo mani off eBay new for 199. Probs get a second hand garrett for a few hundred and you can get a downpipe made to your specs for less than 100. Dp is good but you could get all that for about 500-700 quid

What I don't want to do is change pistons etc! I want to run low boost

bye bye pistons ;)
edit: also need standalone ecu for best results tbh.

dont listen to some of the people posting shit on this thread mate. They know fuck all.Your pistons will be fine. If all done correctly and mapped well you can run a healthy 220 bhp on stock internals if its a vts.Few people run more.

+1
Plenty people running boost on stock internals with just a repair gasket and no decomp.
Just dont scrimp on the mapping and ECU and make sure he knows both the engine and the ECU

Looking at the kit sounds tempting + ecu injectors radiator and intercooler, fuel pump ok as standard?

it's all the other costs that mount up that kit is probably 1/4 of what you need.

Cheers guys, like I said low boost I'm wanting to ru so I don't have to change inernals! Ive seen and know people with vts and gtis who run standard internals on a turbo set up just got to get it all spot on an mapped. I'm changing the fuel pump and end of the month walbro 225 or 255 can't remember what one it is

wouldnt reccomend running on a repair gasket tbh, you need to lower compression, or it wont last....

Standard pistons can take 218bhp and maybe more. Along as fueling is spot on, standards are good. Blackie has proven.

Standard pistons are good for LOTS of power, how long they will last depends in lots of things..
Not sure about 8v but the j4 engine has under piston oil squirters which help keep the piston cool. Which helps with boost I imagine
There is a guy In holland (dp engineering built car) that has run stock pistons for years. First with 320hp and now it has 420hp on e85 race fuel.. Figures seem way too impressive for me but even if his figures are 10-20% out it's still very impressive

exactly :y: Love people who comment on this thread who know nothing saying the pistons will fuck up!

majority of engines have them danny, 8v inclusive

Low boost will be fine on stock internals but as mentioned further up the thread it's all down to a very good map on after market management that will help to keep tempertures down to minimum with a good consistant air/fuel ratio ;)

The guy on 106oc has run over 300bhp on stock piston and stock head etc!

i think it should be more like.
standard pistons could be fine. it depends on alot of factors,
if the engines had a hard life then adding boost wont help the internals.
if its been well maintained then theres nothing to say they wont last.
rings have a gd chance of failing 2.
low boost good mapping and regular servicing should see the car happy for a long time.
