Manifold questions, 16v engine.

Hi all,

I have a 106 GTI with an Ecosse induction kit (and green filter :y:) and a pugsport decat.

Is it worth my while to fit a 4-2-1 style manifold? Will I notice a discernible difference once fitted to the car, with the mods I already have? I'm tempted to get one but at £150+ I'd like to be feeling a difference!

Also, is heat wrapping a must? I see some bother and other's dont. I've heard tales of alternators and induction kits getting cooked by 4 branch manifolds, so I'm wary of that. Is heat wrapping easy enough to do?

Finally is it worth investing in a new exhaust fitting kit, i.e. nuts, studs, spring bolts, gaskets etc to fit the new mani? Can these still be bought from Pug/Citroen?

You can pick up a Raceland for about 100 second hand, and theyve shown gains over a standard manifold.

Id definitely wrap one, it reduces heat in the engine bay, and theoretically improves the performance/efficiency of the engine.

If youre concerned about your alternator sitting close to the mani, get a VTR alternator bracket and fit that; it will relocate the alternator to the bottom of the block. Youll need a VTR belt though.

I wouldnt bother with new exhaust fitting kit, they dont tend to get knackered. I would get some head studs though, as usually a few of them stick to their nuts and get extracted from the head.

Best breathing mod on a 16v. Got a piper 4-1 on myself. Coupled with a supersprint race system. Raspy as fook and pops all the time. Biggest gain with breathing mods you will notice is throttle response.

Yeah I have noticed the increased throttle response with the Pugsport decat, seems to pick up thru the revs a bit better. Wondering if I'd notice much if I put a 4-2-1 on.

I'm after a Supersprint, so if anyone has one, let me know :)
