Where does the mouth sit?

At the moment, its tucked under my slam panel and about 5mm above the radiator.

It never came with the bracket, its held together with cable ties for the time being :panic:

I'll get a picture of mine in the morning if nobody else puts one up, but mine's in the same place. I've made up some brackets that both bolt into the slam panel, the mouth is tucked underneath the panel and about 5mm above the rad as well. I've modified the bonnet catch area and cut out a 6x1inch rectangular slot directly in front of the filter, so air passing through the front grille is directed straight into the airbox, otherwise the slam panel blocks 99% of the raceland scoop's mouth.

Eventually going to fit a twin cone filter instead of the K&N I've got in it at the moment to get a bit more air in, just haven't found one small enough!

Any fairly sturdy strips of metal can be manipulated to make a decent bracket, but I wanted a slightly tidier job so when I was in the local hardware shop picking up a few bits I spotted they had a variety of shelving brackets. They were 99p for a bag of 20 so I got 20 straight strips and 20 right angles, they come pre drilled with mounting holes that take an M6 bolt so are ideal.

Would imagine any B&Q, Screwfix or local hardware/garden centre type place will have something similar in. Just waiting for my camera to charge and I'll get a few pics of mine the car's right outside the door :)

Few pictures here for ya! I've got a modified intake pipe that I made up from silicon and polished alloy hose from AP Motorstore on Ebay, I think my Raceland was for a VTR originally so the right angle pipe didn't allow the housing to sit far enough forward. Engine bay is a bit dirty cleaning it up is on the list!

Some pictures of how I've done the brackets, slam panel has been drilled and I've bolted them into it. Power steering reservoir bracket was knocked up quickly it's not the tidiest but it works, I had to move it under the coolant hose so if you do double check no hoses are rubbing anywhere.

And some pictures of what I've done to the slam panel, you can't really see it and I was in a rush so it's not the tidiest job, but it works and I'm sure I can notice a difference. You couldn't hear any noise before with the panel blocking the airbox but now at idle if you crouch down you can hear air whistling through the grille, and in the bottom picture you can see the silver front of the K&N through the grille so there's nothing blocking the airflow to it at all.

I have stole a mounting bracket from work with a e-long-gated hole (sp?)

It sits nicely in there now but i think it was designed for a VTS? It fouls on the battery and also hits a blue sensor just above my thermostat.

IMHO, the scoop is a waste of time. There are 2 very small openings for the air to get into. I'm thinking of drilling some 12mm holes in a uniform formation through the slam panel to give it more air to rush into.

Mine is awfully low to my manifold too.

I tried fitting on my VTS earlier on..

didnt feel like relocating the powersteering reservoir

Also the airpump and piping was in the way and I dont want to remove that either.

Gave up in the end.

Was gonna say maybe mine doesn't as it's a MK1!

Going to replace my K&N with a twin cone filter for a bit more air flow, I've found the twin cone Green filter that Kam sell that should do the job, but it's pretty dear will be at least £50 delivered! Does anyone know if there's a cheaper version available from a different manufacturer that will still fit in the Raceland enclosure?

Yeah, if you wanted to do a tidier job you could use a metal blade in a jigsaw. Thinking back if I could have done it differently I probably would have got a 30-40mm holesaw and just drilled a line of circular holes along the length of the panel, would've retained a lot more strength then but still offered more airflow. But the way I've done it works fine, and you can't see it so it doesn't matter that it's not the prettiest of jobs!
