View Full Version : Doubtful, but improving a 1.0L?

Hey,

I'm very doubtful as I've looked around, but there's no way to improve the performance of a 1.0L without an engine swap? I don't want to spend a lot of money on this car because I'm saving for a new one, so the less money spent on this one (within reason) the more can be saved.

Cheers guys.

Seriously do not bother unless its parts that can be swapped to your new car.

Meh, pretty much what I thought. Was just looking for something to make it struggle less - I do long journeys, and in Wales you can imagine some of the uphill roads. Cheers anyway.

To go faster either increase powewr or lower weight. As you can not increase power strip the interior out of it. Only downside is long journeys might give you a headache if you remove sound deadening and carpet.
Worth a look into though.

actuall try to get a larger tyre on the car will mess with the acceleration but will increase the top end and offer lower reves to sit a legal limits

but the rolling radius will mess with the wear and tear on bits as well

i used to run a trooper with a 245 75 15 (28") tyre went up to a 32 and it increased the ticking over speed on the motorway but meant it have the same acceleration around town

Lol he wants to be able to pull up hill's easier.. so i'd say smaller sized wheels for easier acceleration.. But as it's a 1.1, im sure it'll have 14's or 13's on it already.

Get nitrous lol? Brand new kit ready to fit £559.. can swap it to any car.. Have a 25bhp shot for the hills. :P.

Worse, it's a 1.0 (technically a 0.96) and has 13" steel wheels. Yeah, sucks.

I'm not in it for speed in this car to be honest, just want it to look smart, clean and tidy! Will be getting alloys as soon as some pop up on Gumtree for cheap :3

...and no to NOS :P

Fair do's. How bad is it? How high you rev it? will be useless under 4k up a big hill lol.

I'm suprised, as I bought a 1.1 saxo as a run around.. and the speed of that thing surprised me! Just really have to rev them.

The 1.1 is way more powerful than the 1.0, because the 1.0 is technically 0.96 and the 1.1 is something like 1.15 (almost 200cc more). It's not THAT bad, but I could do with a little more omph. Suppose that's just what you get from a 1.0L really!

And I've no idea what revs I do. I've umm.. uhh.. got a clock there instead. ¬_¬

Haha true, I always forget that some cars don't even have rev counters!

Theres not a lot you can do to a 1.0..

Which roads you always driving? theres only a few ive found that the VTS struggles on

Whats the plan for the next car then?

From Cardiff to Abergavenny there's some steep climbs. I live by the brecon beacons, along with two other nutorious biking roads - the rhigos and bwlch mountains. My roads aren't so forgiving on clutches and fuel.

Looks wise, some subtle 3 stud alloy wheels and a VTR front bumper. Never liked the way a flat arch's nose stuck out like concorde. Got some HID's in the post too, after that I probably won't touch it until I sell it - soon, I hope.

Only things you could try is if your getting a vtr next of fancy selling stuff off at the end is breathing mods but they will make such a small difference i wouldnt bother for the hassle

I feel your pain though i had a 1.0 s1 106 and it had the wrong gearbox on (5 speed i suspect a westy/quicky box) it was fucking useless and in 5th at full throttle it actually slowed down unless you were going down hill
I used to have to use 1st and rag it when i got to some hills
I dunno what they were thinking when they made such a pathetic engine lol!!

I didn't even know they did a 1.0 106! I thought they were 1.1's and upwards.

The reason why I'm keeping this car for a while is that it's spotless - inside and out. There's no mechanical faults, nothing. Absolutely gorgeous condition! It's just a shame it's a little underpowered.

Mind you! I've put some Wynnes petrol injector cleaner in. It says to put it in a full tank, BUT - if you run the tank dry, put the whole bottle in, fill it up with £20's worth of V-Power or other high octane fuel then give the car a good blast on the straights, it really makes a difference. My MPG has gone up considerably and it pulls a lot better! :)

I know the roads you are on about, my 1.4 struggled on them..
The VTS loves the A470 and the A40 though lol, Heads of the valleys has some fun climbs which are probably the ones you are on about.. I dont really think there is a lot you could do apart from decat and induction.. but you are selling the car soon so theres no point, and you got the other thread open about the noise of your exhaust so im guessing you dont like the volume at all..

When your driving these welsh mountains in your vts? Im guessing the mpg is.... poor?
Im driving there for WRC next month, went last year but i was in a 1.4 clio which was pretty good on fuel. Now ive got my vts, dreading the petrol bill...

sorry for off topic, @OP: my only suggestion is shed some weight? Or fit an induction kit, then it'll sound faster at least! ;)
