im looking to replace my alternator before the weekend in my 106 gti and i have never done anything like this before, was just wondering if there are any little things i can do to make this easier or if any one has done this before that could give me some tips? cheers

Removing the engine makes things easier.

remove the driverside wheel with the car on a axel stand obvs, makes getting to the 17mm bolt alot easier.
rest of it is straight forward. i'd recomend replacing the belt aswell while you have it off.

disconnect they battery so you dont short the live out or poo ur self when its hits block and sparks lol

the adjustor screw on 16v is a pain in the arse, have a pair of mole grips handy.

mine was completely fucked. gonna make a new one up at work with a proper hex head on it
