Just a quick one just got my engine conversion is done vtr to vts and the revs are at 20 not 8 and the throttle body is hissing and its loud sound should it be like this? Don’t think its leaking And the engine runs very hot is this because the internals are new pistons rings bearings, is this because its bedding in? You can not put your hand on the cam cover as its very hot is this normal for vts engines? :y: and what oil would be the best for the engine.

i got ripped into when i first joined asking if the rocker covers are meant to get really hot lol, the answer is yes, its the oil circulating round the engine :)
if revs are too high, maybe try cleaning the icv.
oil to use is semi synthetic 10w40

If the engine is idling at 2k, you probably have an inlet leak. The 16V engines do feel like they run hotter than the 8Vs. Oil wise, 10W40 or 5W40 is fine.

Yes it sounds like there is a leak I think it’s were the pip goes for the fuel vapours to the filter under the drivers wing.:y:

Ah gotcha, that connector can sometimes snap off the underside of the plenum. I'd look into replacing the plenum, or block the snapped nipple off with araldite or similar.

i just put some putty over the hole for now do you think the engine will be ok with no pipe on or would it be best to get another 1 :y:

I don't think it'll cause too many problems blocking it off - people with throttle bodies etc don't seem to run a charcoal canister.

thats what I thought by looking at the pix of other vts convertions with throttol bodies :y: still need to get the revs down to hi :y:
