my car failed its mot on friday and the guy told me its because it has no cat
just spoke to previous owner and he said that it does have a cat and he asked the guy that done his previous mot and he also told him it did have a cat?
do you think the cat is knackered or think it might be a dodgy lambda sensor? as the car does idle a little funny now and again too
also the only other thing is that its a 98 model BUT it has a different engine fitted he said as this one has the oil cooler on it? pipe going to the top of the rad has two hoses coming off it going to the part that goes between the engine and the oil filter
any ideas and thoughts?

ok the pipe you explained has to 2 pipes going to the heater exchange unit mate. have a look under the car and if you see a box on the car behind the downpipe its the cat if not the cat is missing then you know forsure if you have one or not

no mate not that one lol its at the front of the car... 2 pipes coming off the hose that goes from the thermostat to the top of the rad which goto a part that is between the oil filter and engine
i wont be at the car untill tomorrow :( but need to get a cat sorted asap if it is the cat
been told CO is down to the cat and HC is down to the lambda if thats correct then the lambda is fine right?

yeah thats right CO's for the cat. my advise is if you know a mechanic see if he can plug in diagnostics just make sure your getting a good 02 sensor reading bank 1 and 2 if you are 100% the cat

id say it wasnt hot enough to work, a cat wont work below 300oC!
its clearly working if its 0.7. fucked cats produce way more CO than that! fuel / injector cleaner and a very good run!
but if its shagged, change it and the lambda.

Yeah thats what he done, he said he cant get it pass the emissions so he left it running and gave it a rev to keep warming it up...
I will be changing the cat Tuesday for one I just got and will make sure the car is warmed up, I know the fuel that was in the car had been sat for a little while too so I may put a bit more in and maybe some redex or something?

if you book it for an mot you can drive it to where its being done. blast it down theroad clear out the exhuast a bit. its pretty obvious if you go a cat. get someone to double check just so your sure
