Right, I've got a vtr with an induction kit and 4-2-1 Decat manifold with straight through and cherry bomb silencer, I want to cam it, and make it as fast as possible, practicality isn't an issue because the cars so low it's un practical already. So what I want to know is how hard are the cam shafts to change on a mk2 vtr, do I need the valve springs and what else, do I need a vernier pulley. Once dammed I plan to remap it, I've found somewhere that does mobile ecu rempping for 200 quid, reasonable? Mainly want to know what's involved in changing a vtr mk2 camshaft!!!

To exchange camshaft you need to get the head off as the bolts for rocker assembly holds the head down.
It can be done without removing the head but it involves disambly of the rocker gear, which is a little fittly.
But you defently need to get the cambelt of and time the engine up, you proberly need to time it up with a venierpulley to get it running. But ask the manufactor of the camshaft about this, they will also know wether you need uprated valvesprings and venierpulley.

Use the camshaft selection guide to find out which camshaft will suit your needs...

It's a simple enough job, you could probably do it in a day if you knew what you were doing.

Take the cambelt off, take the head off, slide the old cam out, then put the head and cambelt back on!

You'll need a new head gasket, and it'd be worth putting a new cambelt on there whilst you're at it.

Mind you... not sure why you're trying to make it as fast as possible if it's so low it's unpractical...

I've got a video from my VTR that was cammed. That had induction kit, and full decat exhaust with 4-2-1.

Cammed VTR 0-100 - YouTube

It's not an amazing increase in power... but definitely noticeable. And it moves the power up the rev band, so you get a more noticeably surge after 3-4k rpm.

I counted around 7 seconds to 60. What shaft did you use? Wack on a vts box and you'll be a bit quicker
