What size socket / spanner is correct to take the plastic cover of the oil filter off please? Are there any special tools that people use, obviously thinking socket would be better due to location / access.

socket yeah, think its a 22mm iirc.

Took mine off 2 years ago, but 22 rings a bell lol.

damn, still cant get it off! ( still trying with an adjustable ) can anyone confirm for sure its 22 i need?

100% 27mm, did mine at weekend. And yes, use a socket, otherwise you'll break it (speaking from experience haha)

even with an adjustable you should be able to get it off unless youve got twix limbs.

27 mm it is.

You need a tapered socket so its a snug fit and reduce the risk of breaking it.
