cam vtr or just get vts?

had my vtr over a year now and bored of it. been thinking about camming it for a while but not sure what sort of power increase i'll be looking at?

i could just sell my car and buy a vts for about the same overall cost so if a standard s still has better perfomance i might aswell just get an s surely?

also what sort of mpg am i looking at for a cammed vtr?

If your car has sentimental value or is fairly unique etc get an S engine fitted. Otherwise buy a VTS..most cost effective mod you can do, eventually you'll get bored of the cams and wish you'd just started with an S engine and cammed that..VTR with mild cams and map..maybe 115-120bhp..if not then a tiny bit more? VTS is 120 Standard.

the only thing is insurance on a vts is sooo much more

how long you had your license? Iv only had mine 2 years and insurance on a vts is only 200 more a year than on my 1.4

had mine 2 years aswell, but got one claim not at fault. Payin £1500 fully comp with mods declared on the vtr and quotes for a vts start at £2800 so nearly double...

go for the vts. i loved my first vtr so i put a vts engine in, did the work myself and sold the old bits and it cost me all in less than the cost of the cam alone for a vtr engine let alone mapping and a new manifold

Personally I'd wait until your insurance drops, but 9 months is a long time.

Camming a vtr is a waste of time imo. For the cost to do it and a remap, you may just get above 120, and would be well past the cost of a vts engine.

You could be even more crafty and fit the s engin and not declare it. That's up to you though I'm not saying its the right thing to do. But I know loads who do it though.

i did it, someone crashed into it and i didnt get caught. it was only on the road 2 days though and i hadnt had time to sort it

vts engine swap sounds like to much hassle to me, i need my car everyday for uni and work so wouldnt realy have time for it anyway. I'll just have to wait till insurance drops i spose

its not that much hassle. i done mine in 8 hours on a friday night/saturday afternoon

weekend job if you got someone with you that knows what they're doing, and triple check you have everything you need and have a couple hundred spare for unforeseen problems and you'll get it in, we have three vts converted cars in my house its not a bigger deal as people think but you'll only no that once you've done it lol

I think that you should stay clear of a VTS till your insurance drops & save money in the mean time. Just take your time choosing a VTS & don't do what i did when i was in your shoes wiv a VTR. I rushed to buy the VTS and imo overlooked things like the bodywork coz i was in a rush for extra power lol.
PS remember-you'll often get bored of the power. I'm in process of camming my VTS. Seriously tho, be wise and save up!
