Hi all im new to saxperience and this is my first post so apologies if i have done anything wrong!
Im driving a mk2 vtr (cat in mani) and looking into getting myself a de-cat manifold next month as MOT has just been renewed. Any reccomendations or brands to avoid? Trying not to break the bank too much so the cheaper the better. Preferably 4-2-1 but im not bothered too much just wanting something to free up them revs a little.
Cheers,
Reece

Yeah ive seen a lot of sportex but just assumed it was a bit of a cheap brand in comparison to raceland/ janspeed etc. I have a sportext centre pipe atm and had no problems with fitting it and seems well built.
Can pick them up for about 150 on ebay aswell i think. Have you had any experience with these before?

heard bad fitting problems with sportex a few times on here. your best of saving for a decent brand thats trusted and people know aint gonna have issues with.
i got the janspeed 4-2-1 with sports cat off kam quite pricey but well worth it as u see the gains hear the noise and no messing bout come mot time as it has a cat

Problems with the fitting was my main worry! heard that the sportex dont line up with the engine too well. Did you notice much gains after the de-cat?

i was looking at getting that. dont think its too bad price wise, but its mild steel isnt it? not stainless. does that make a difference? and did you have any problems with fitting it?

All these post's about problems fitting it..
Its 8 bolts 2 clips (lambda's), then join the centre pipe to it. Simples.

Sadly that does not mean the holes are in the right place or the flange is thick enough so when its welded everything does not warp slightly...it happens with cheaper brands

I had a raceland fitted a few weeks back and it was more difficult that it needed to be, once the bolts were done up the downpipe didnt meet the centre section properly so the guy had to make some adjustments to get it to fit.
Cheaper brands usually equals a cheaper made product, resulting in corners being cut

Try and go for a stainless one if you can , they will be tig welded and when tig welding stuff usually doesn't warp or pull as much as mig , also a few years down the line a stainless one will be Easyer to patch up if it gets any holes ;)

You can pick up a mani in the forsale thread. You need 100 posts or premium though its worth it. Theres a couple of Piper 4-1s for sale atm. I've got a piper 4-1 sounds lovely and made better than the sportex.

I've fitted a raceland to a 8v and 16v. They was both straight forward to fit.. Only problem, was once you've put the mani over the studs.. you have to put the bottom nut's on before you push it flush with the engine..
As the stud's nearly touch the mani.. so can't get a nut on otherwise..

Toyosports. Might not be as well known or repped as the racelands or superpsrint but every comment on ebay about them was " perfect fit " "Excellent" and what not and its T304 stainless, Not mild steel. Based in Birmingham to collect. Comes with all stuff needed to fit. ChAdS on here has one and said he didnt expect much but it was mint. He got his as a bid for like 70 delivered. Bargain.
