When its weak, drinking oil.
It will be quite obvious.
A new 1.1 engine...about £50 same for a VTR
VTS can be picked up for £100ish, conversions Id budget about £250.

not so bad then... I have a feeing it mite be using up oil because the end of the dipstick is dry after a oil change (4000 miles ago) but it's hard to tell til i got a new dipstick because the end of it broke off into the sump -.- i don't see signs of burning oil tho no smell or blue smoke..

Mines done 149k and has needed a gbox and sparkplug hole repairing in 20k miles. Everything else is fine as long as you treat it right. And can you not borrow a dipstick? Rather be sure than run it empty!

Well got one orderd off ebay, if it has gone down it shouldnt be so much that its gonna cause damage to the engine because if its gone down that fast im sure i got serious problems lol, im trying to look after it but not sure it was treated good previously because when i picked it up it'd been standing for 8 months.

end of the dipstick drops straight into the sump and won't cause any damage

having my 1.1 as my first car too I know what its like, trying to make sure its in perfect running order as its your little baby. As for milage, doesnt always mean the engine's goosed. Mines on 132k now and its still alright (sods law it won't start now...). As for changing the engine, wouldn't bother unless yours goes really wrong, it's money and hassle! Just keep up the servicing and make the oil/filter changes more frequent than 9-10k if your doing short journeys. But if you want to ignore me completely (and i would have ignored my own advice a few years ago) and get really anal do a compression test on the car and see what the engines like.

I just wanted to make sure the engine not on its way out with such high milage and just wonderd ona price for a new engine and fitting, just curious. but yeahh i am looking after the car with servecing i keep it clean too specily in thiss weather with all the grit and salt. I never really do short journeys i use it a hell of alot, i do at least 50 miles aday and usualy alot more due to work etc.

Mine was running like crap, spat the sparkplug out. £200 later and its like a brand new car!

what year is it? 122k on a 2000 car isn't high milage imo. the national averadeg is around 15k a year nowsince 2000. used to be 10k so i still go on that, so a 2000 car @15k a year should be on around 165k now.
if you bought it with full service history then i wouldn't worry, mine is almost on 134k (1.4 furio '01) and it still pulls like a train ( or as good as it can) wouldn't think it had the miles on that it does. then again i know that the youngest person to own it before me were a girl who had it for a short time (traded it in for something bigger)
just keep up with the oil changes (i do mine every 6 months) and i only do max say 3.5k a year si i know the engine is well looked after. i don't rag it from cold. only really hit 4k on the revs when i've had a bad day at work and i'm pissed off. rest of the time change gear at around 2k rpm. wich is about perfect for these engines high. enough not to allow the enigne to labour and low enough for decent mpg for town and now over reving it :)

Yeah its a 52 plate seems to run fine so im not worried, got service history and everything and again like you i dont rev above 4k rpm no point anyway i think peak power is at 4k rpm anyway?

Keep it serviced regularly and theres no reason it shouldn't pass 150k easily enough.
The engines are not known for dying early in a Saxo, unless they are abused and no maintained.
All the other parts in the engine bay will likely need replacing several times over before the engine dies.
