A lot of people are gonna say engine swap, however I have a 1.1 too, all I plan to do is put an enclosed induction kit on mine in place of the heavily restricted system already in place, don't be silly and bolt a turbo onto it :L I also heard about something called an 'ecotech valve' or something like that, which attaches to a vacuum hose and increases fuel economy while eliminating flat spots and increasing throttle response, relatively inexpensive too :) I guess more higher spec spark plugs wouldn't hurt it either, give it a good service too :)

The best thing you can do to a 1.1 is leave the engine well alone and fit uprated brakes, better suspension with wider wheels and good tyres. That way you are set to upgrade the power when you need to - it just isnt cost effective to use the 1.1 as a basis for modifying when R/S engines are so cheap

How cheap are they?

80 - 300 for a low mileage S engine.

Best mod has to be removing it.

And mod you buy is money wasted on a 1.1.

As said supension, brakes. Increase speed ever so slightly and have the same effect on all models

VTR unit £50 up or so depending on whats been done to it/in it. VTS from £150 up and same goes. Thats not factoring in ECU costs, cooling setups and all the other little bits just the price of the lumps.

ha its not silly bolting a turbo onto a 1.1 i know someone on here did it and it doubled its power;);)

i agree with you though tbh. to the op id save up for a bigger engined car and concentrate on the running side of your car, keep it well maintained/clean

close the bonnet, its just not cost effective to spend money on. Save your cash and either get another car or engine.

Doubled the power! Wow lol

Double the power of a 1.1 though is just the same as a VTS power output, so economically its not the best solution, but agreed, it is impressive :)

If you want some power on a 1.1 you should put a better engine in. You can pick a VTS engine up quite cheep these days.

Yea he just had a spare turbo kit to hand and tried it. Think it doubled power + some extra. How class would that be rinsing vts in a 1.1 lol. If I had spare cash......;)

You can stick a full exhaust system and enclosed induction kit which may give you a couple of extra bhp but on a car which only has 60 to start with, you really won't notice any difference but would be a few hundred quid out of pocket.

Haha I have, might challenge you or another vts owner, but oh wait...the shame of I still lost :L

Dont really want to strip the car as its got the leather and suede interior from a 106 gti in it and it is nice, also got vts spoiler, vtr wheels, and 306 brakes and calipers.

im probably reaalllyyyy dumb but how can changing the brakes increase the power if brakes are used for stopping :S

You can brake later, more confidence in them. Dont overheat as easily as the shitty 1.1 brakes.

Up to you if you want to spend it on making the car faster, but the car with the better brakes will be going faster for longer when you with the small brakes and more engine mods is slowing down sooner.

You will always benefit from better brakes, its a future proof mod too if he was to get a VTS engine in there.

so it went too 30bhp? :P

It was Gav that done it with the same turbo kit I have just now. It made 145 'tourqes' so it would happily beat a standard vts power wise :y:

I think there *may* be a confusion there, I am pretty sure Gav turbo'd a 1.1, but then later turbo'd a 1.4 with my ECU.

It was the 1.4 that made 145lbsft torque, and 120bhp. It made that at 4500rpm. After that, the really skinny turbo adapter plate strangled the power.

In my opinion, having mapped it, if it was a less strangled design it would have easily made 150bhp and 150lbsft torque without question.

Turbo'ing a 1.1 would be pretty cool, you'd get 60mpg and 130mph, 0-60 in around 7 seconds.

How can you sniff at that??
