View Full Version : Clutch?

Hey guys
Recently been noticing my clutch only needs to be pressed down about 1-2cm to be able to change gear. does this mean I need a new clutch, or the cable needs tightening?

I've been quoted £293 for a new clutch, bearings and labour

But rather know if it can be sorted by just tightening it

Regards

dont you know anyone that could fit the clutch for you any cheaper, a friend or someone off here? As above that sounds expensive!!

Try and adjust it first.

How high/low is the pedal.

Nah, its the place in strood near the printers, cuxton mot or something. I have a mate who knows about cars, i'll see if he can tell me any better. But 293 is with everything all in. And i can dip it about 1-2cm instead of slamming it to the floor to change gear.

is your clutch pedal sitting a touch higher than your brake pedal?

Cam

All in is still alot i done the clutch on my vts for £100 thats with a standerd valeo clutch aswell, a garage will just put the cheapest clutch they can get there hands on.

None of that answered how high or low your pedal is?

Oh, is it the actual pedal? Two secs then

Edit:
The clutch pedal is about 1-2cm higher then the brake

Try tightening the clutch cable up.

Wouldn't bother replacing the clutch personally until it starts slipping.

When it 'slips' what does that mean?

How'd I tighten it up?

Lol at your sig!

Actually i think you want to slacken the cable if it's too high.

I could do you a clutch for £190. With a genuine valeo, receipt, warranty...

Seriously wouldnt bother unless it's slipping or making a grinding noise.

When you try to accelerate and the revs rise but the speed doesn't.

Look at the clutch arm on top of the gearbox (will need to remove airbox/induction kit), turn the two nuts...

And it's the best thing I've heard about fuses.

Ta. It's been a while since I've looked at one, couldn't remember if it was tighten or slacken off.

Cheers man, well if i decide to get a new one or it starts slipping i'll bring my car to you. I'd rather pay £20 in petrol and have a cuppa while I wait :y:

Well I havent noticed any performance difference. The only thing that bothers me is if i press the clutch about an inch its biting point, which seems higher then usual.

I wont have any idea what to look for, is it difficult to get too? My air filters been taken out, i'm using a mushroom one.

Would I be turning the 13mm socket anti clockwise to lower it?

KrisB

I'm sure you turn the 13mm nut ANTI Clockwise to lower the pedal. Not that it matter... i'm sure you'll figure it out. Cant go wrong either way.

Would recommend Kris, he's only about an hour from you :)

Unless it's slipping or making noises then I would just leave it, some pedals are high.

Clutches are not really my strong point, perhaps the cable has streched? (I could be talking bollocks lol)

Mine is fairly high and I am getting it changed but only because I am having a new engine fitted so may as well, wouldn't have bothered otherwise.

transmech are cool, i loved it when we used to have customers who provided their own ebay special clutches, charge them fitting, then 100 miles later, they're back for a valeo.

sadly for me, i once had the pleasure of using mr crutch, 200 miles from home with no tools in a 406, knobheads managed to bust the aircon rad getting the box out and clutch always felt shite, and bloody expensive.

Mr Clutch are all con artists.

Everyone of them tells you that your flywheel is fucked etc.

I always tell people to avoid them like a hooker with AID's.

I told you, where revs rise without speed increasing.

And if you head there when it's just started I'd say yes.

You 'should' be able to drive it there no problems. I drove a car back from Devon for a mate with a slipping clutch. And as said above, some people have done a fair few hundred miles.
