New Cat Cams '743' hydraulic profile for Citroen Saxo VTS / Peugeot 106 GTi

Since their launch a few years ago, Cat Cams’ 1321708’s have been the acknowledged market leader for the popular Saxo VTS and 106 GTi models. They're an ideal cam profile for enthusiast’s seeking a fast road / trackday profile that works with the standard ECU and delivers a reliable lift / duration increase within the confines of the TU5J4’s hydraulic lifter set up.

But for 2012 Cat Cams NV has revised the design of the ‘708’ and using new methods, has found measurable improvements which are now released in a new fast road / trackday TU5J4 hydraulic profile – called the 1321743 or ‘743.’

The technical specification of the Cat Cams 1321743 profiles is as follows:-

Cat Cams Duration Duration Max Lift
Part no @ 1.0mm+cl @0.1mm
1321743 256° / 256° 230° / 230° 10.00 / 10.00 mm

Back to back dyno testing against the ‘708’ profile by UK based Citroën / Peugeot tuning specialist Pug1off has proven the new ‘743’ design’s worth. Using a 2002 Citroen Saxo VTS with an induction kit, Raceland exhaust manifold, sports exhaust and RS Tuning ECU remap, these test sessions proved that the new ‘743’ profile gains right throughout the rev range compared to the old ‘708’ design.

Peak figures on RS Tuning’s dyno were an impressive 144 bhp and 123 lb.ft, which represents a 3 bhp improvement over the ‘708,’ combined with a 2 lb.ft gain in maximum torque. Pleasingly this test Citroën Saxo VTS produced at least 110 lb.ft of torque from 3250 to 6750 rpm, highlighting the flexible performance of the ‘743’ profile, which also delivers particularly strong power from 6500-7500 rpm.

As with the ‘708’ profiles, the new ‘743’ cams are an easy fitment onto standard timing marks, but require an ECU remap to maintain idle stability and maximise the performance gains.

The 1321743 design for the Citroën Saxo VTS and Peugeot 106 GTi are available now from Cat Cams dealers including Pug1off at the same great value price as the ‘708s’ – just £300.00 including VAT @ 20%.

Be nice to see some comparison graphs on bodies where I'd imagine tha gains mid range would be improved even further :)

So all the cams you tested were set to standard timing? Was there nothing to be gained by adjusting the timing?

No, none of them were RR'd at standard timing, the article means they can all be used on standard marks.

My bad - I read this and assumed they were tested at standard timing...

As with the ‘708’ profiles, the new ‘743’ cams are an easy fitment onto standard timing marks, but require an ECU remap to maintain idle stability and maximise the performance gains.

Did you set the timing yourself to the lift at TDC Cat Cams recommend, or did the mapper adjust it for you?

We set the timing ourself's, iirc i think the timing cat cam recommend is 110 degree's inlet and 106 degree's exhaust, dont take that as gospel though as that is just off the top of my head. You do get fitting instructions with all that info in when you buy them, then on the RR with each set we had a play about but all sets made the best power around the recommened timing.

For 3hp and 2lb ft i wouldn't bother lol..
If going for new cams then they would prob be first choice for the norm now but you'd be mad to change the cams in yours for such small gains.

These give you a nice power increase then.

Those numbers dont give you the full picture of the profile though. Ideally the profile would be known, but more information such at the KLD ratio would be beneficial

I can't tell if your being sarcastic or not lol

Well I'm not gonna swap them but knowing I could have got more power for no extra money... tom asked me if I wanted to do the trial but my car was in no position to be ready, anyway I think my car would be more suited to another set of cams they are developing

Yea these cam's are better than 708's but they basically look like there just going to end up replacing them in future sale's imo. Like danny said for that power difference over a 708 then i cant see many people replacing them, rather they will just become the most common catcam item instead of the 708's. it depends on how the respond to boddie's which hopefully some time next year i might have a graph to throw up.

Ive had a quick look them profile's are the one's written on the sheet given with the 743's so its possibly just a typo on the catcam sheet i will get it check when im back in at work and amend this thread.
