Hi .

Just wondering if any gains would be had from removing the centre box ? I can do it for free at work on my dinner , so won't be costing anything , would it give the exhaust a more sporty note ? Wouk it affect the car performance atall ? I don't know anything about exhausts on na cars only turbo exhausts

Cheers joe

What are you planning on replacing it with?

Which car have you got?

If it's a 1.1, all you will get is noise with no noticeable power gain. Even on a VTR/VTS the power gain will be so small it probably won't be noticeable.

You are better of decatting it, getting an aftermarker centre and backbox.

Sorry should have said , it's a 03plate vtr , I don't want to spend any money on the car at the min , it won't cost anything for me to do as I will just cut the centre box of and replace with a peice of pipe and tig it up so it's nice and neat , would it make a difference to sound ? And would it make any difference on performance

I doubt you will get anymore power but you may get some more noise. I wouldn't bother unless you are going to buy a propper system

It's more for I little bit more noise , I don't want the car to be loud , and no point decat because it's in the mani and I was thinking about a 16v conversion , I'm just doing little subtle things first making the handling and stopping spot on before making it faster in a straight line because corners are more fun , so your answer is it will make it slightly louder ? Will it mess back pressure up ?

If its the mid silencer then it will make the car louder but you wont have better performance.
